In wow every class has dps spec. And your class fantasy doesn’t collide with role you can play if it makes sense.
While in FF14 every class (job) has only one role. Edgy Dark Knight with 2h sword? He’s a tank. Warrior with 2h axe? Also tank. Guy with literal gunblade and leather gear? OFCOURSE HE’S A TANK TOO.
I doubt i’ll stay in ff14 for more than just story. And i guess i’ll have to pick Samurai to be melee dps, not as cool as dark knight visually but well, tanking is pain everywhere
Or, just go Blm. Create burn group. And nuke the world with 3 other blms and get a Scholar as healer, just incase you decide to 5man raids as burn group.
Which is proof that more buttons doesn’t necessarily equal fun. Dragoon is neat, but once you learn the rotation (which doesn’t take long), you’re basically on muscle memory auto-pilot. Just like WoW.
It’s other factors, like animations, sound and visual effects, positionals, etc that really have the largest impact.
Dragoon isn’t a tank but yes, the rotations become muscle memory. The overall rotations are more involved compared to WoW though, which also includes abilities not part of the core rotations.
One thing that WoW has over FFXIV is mythic +. FFXIV doesn’t have multiple difficulty levels for alot of there dungeons, much less 25 or however many key levels people are running these days.
Astrologian’s healing tools are some of the most basic healing mechanics ever, though? It’s only the support stuff that’s different, and “support” in this case has been reducing to “damage buff”.
Eh, in FF14 a tank is essentially a DPS with defense skills and a healer is a DPS with healing spells. Warriors are DPS monsters.
In the case of healers this is actually a huge and divisive issue in the community because a lot of people who really want to play healers are in for the supportive playstyle and loathe having to care about their DPS parse…
Tanks in FFXIV are literally dps with defensive cooldowns, FFXIV doesn’t have hybrids and the reason is because you can play every job on one character. I’m not entirely sure what the point of this topic is, It just looks like your ranting because Dark Knight and Gunbreaker weren’t dps jobs lol.
I think mythic raid gear is actually slightly higher than top end mythic + gear by 10 item levels. Although you’re right about the logistics of getting together a raid and everyone performing mechanics, mythic + is nice for people who can’t devote time to raiding because it takes much less time to complete and is alot easier to set up as well.
Which is what leads to their lack of healers imo. I’m one of those people that was thoroughly pissed about having to deal damage on White Mage. I struggled to level Conjuror/WHM to 50 in 1.0 because I wanted to heal things dammit!
And it’s DPS rotation was ridiculous. Cast wind spell. Cast earth spell. Rinse/repeat ad nauseum ad infinitum. Ooh look, I actually get to push a healing button! And back to 2 button DPS.
I’m sure it’s changed by now. But I genuinely don’t care and won’t be returning to that game.
Yeah I’m completely with you on this, I am a White Mage main as well and while that rotten meta hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the job, it certainly turned me off of raiding, because as it stands, healing dungeons and Eureka was more fun than healing raids for me.
That’s actually one of the big reason why I consider WoW the better raid game despite the AP grind, titanforging and all the other hinderances Blizzard has put to raiding.
The other reason why I consider WoW the better raid game is that 8-12 bosses is better than 4 for a guild that is focused entirely around raiding. I don’t care how much eye and ear candy they put if my group is completely done with the raid after a month and a half. As someone who was a casual raider during his raid days, I expect a raid tier to last me at least 4 months, hopefully more.
