I guess they just had to bring Thrall back, even though it wasn’t the plan obviously. Cause Eitrigg is last named orc and he’s kinda pathetic and old.
Grom died in wc3, OG horde leaders didn’t join Thrall and were made enemies in WoW classic and TBC. Saurfang Jr. died in wotlk, Nazgrim died in MoP, Garrosh died in WoD, another Gul’Dan in legion, Saurfang died in BFA.
All orcs are dead. Thrall is not even real orc.
Oh, there’s also Rehgar, but he’s forgotten and will be killed next faction war for sure
Thrall was a decent orc in wc3 and Vanilla. But his image later and in books is just horrible. He’s like a human in orc skin and this is probably main reason why “New Horde” works and isn’t just another warband with Power in the middle.
But as an pure orc with orc values - he’s way below Grom, Garrosh or even badly damaged by BFA Saurfang.
Also i hate Jaina and how she constantly switches between “let hunt some Orc” and “We and Thrall are besties”
The issue is metzen not wanting to be as active. They could just make a soundboard like the did when chef left south park, lol. I’m sure blizzard could do better than the crude, slapped together nonsense they were going for.
Basically, pop culture appeal is not to embrace Orc as a viable species to is attractive to consumers. It is Blizzard creative team that fails to balance the original concept of game and story telling.
You are right, Thrall is a Orc humanized because the story tellers are not into the warrior masculine mentality because it is ‘bad’ in the eyes of pop culture. Thrall was the human raised Orc, telling us that humans are better. Were as Arthas, perhaps the best antagonist, was human.
Orc is ugly therefore must be bad. Ugly is bad, undead is bad too. Pretty blonde human is good. That is what warcraft tells you, that is what the current blizzard team tells us. Be a pacifist, don’t rock the boat, don’t go against the grain, fall into place and accept what they tell you.
The original creative team when Metzen was telling the story was diverse, unique and perhaps a little campy but very heroic. It was fun. No longer. It’s a badly written pulp fiction romance novel at best. Some people like it, but it will never be widely appreciated and enjoyed.
That’s right! How can Thrall call himself an orc? He speaks in words with more than one syllable, approaches problems with more than the answer of “me smash!”, and has a diet of more than just rocks.
It sure seems like the biggest problem a lot of players have with leaders like Thrall, Baine and Anduin, is that they have a brain and heart.
