Stop posting about how much better one is than the other.
It’s like saying League of Legends is better than Civilization 5. Just because they have the same top down, rts view doesn’t mean that they are comparable.
At this point, blizz should:
double down on the “ACTION ACTION ACTION” of retail and go more toward MoP class design (high action per minute, bring the player not the class) with smaller open worlds and more dungeon diversity per expansion.
create a new dev branch for “classic+” that would launch on new servers and create a new timeline after the fall of Naxx. The class design should continue in the mode of classic, tons of niche/weird spells, weak classes with very obvious weakness (like not having a rez for druids).
One is an mmo R P G.
The other is an A C T I O N mmo.
Different.
Bad analogy, since League and Civ have existed simultaneously for years.
The rub here is that we had old-school WoW, which lots of people liked, that was needlessly replaced with a newer, less satisfying version.
Then, by necessity, people lost access to that old version of WoW that they loved, and for over 10 years they were told by a misguided Blizzard and the new WoW fanbase how bad it actually was, that it was only nostalgia, “You think you do but you don’t” etc.
But now we’re seeing that Blizz was wrong; Classic is a good game in its own right. People feel vindicated at long last. Why should anyone care if they post about it?
I think a better comparison would be something like Civilization 4 and Civilization 5. On the surface they are very similar games. But once you start digging you’ll see many mechanical and core design philosophy differences.
I disagree, even though I dislike the threads. They’re also pretty much the same game, just with variation. And, are both MMORPGs.- anyone who doesn’t think so hasn’t thought clearly. They both fit the definition perfectly.
Just go on and ignore most of the hot air from the forums, me included- as they mostly always have.
I think alot of the rp elements were taken out. Feeding hunter pets, getting different pets to learn how they move so you can train your other pets you learned, not being able to move and shoot, carrying bullets and items for spells. Not being able to open a potion and drink it while being in cat form. While its still technically an RPG, its a husk of what it used to be in those terms
Retail is NOT an MMORPG. It’s a single-player game with instancing that provides multi-player functionality across servers. Let’s not even mention LAYERING which means you and I both could be standing in front of Orgimmar and be playing two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT versions of the game running at the same time. That’s no different than what I did playing Quake. Queue up for random fights with random people who I may or may not see again. Modern WoW = RPG Quake
Yea, and it’s a %100 single-player endeavor with optional multi-player functionality. A real MMORPG requires there to be social mechanics…that’s the whole point of an MMORPG vs a strict RPG. A persistent world that you are REQUIRED to share with and interact with others. WORLD not TEMPORARY INSTANCE.
While good in theory, when you actually get to play that way it just becomes a daily annoyance that you just want to go away. Seriously, unable to interact with npcs while shapeshifted? That was so annoying. No bag space because it’s filled with soulstones/arrows? pass.
Ahh, how many Eternal palace bosses have you 1 manned?
Yeah but thats the role playing aspect of the game people enjoy. Thats why people say it isnt an mmorpg. The little things you think are annoyances, is what gives class identity.
Yeah and just because you don’t carry arrows anymore doesn’t mean it’s no longer an mmorpg. It still is. And those RP elements are things only people in RP realms actually care about. The rest of the playerbase doesn’t even care. Not saying that’s a good thing, but we’re better off without those annoyances.
In the end, someone role playing can roleplay they use arrows
They wouldn’t be as bad if they didn’t negatively affect you as much as they did. Everyone else had the luxary of free bag space, except hunters and warlocks.
I see your point, but you cant really say the rest of the player base doesnt care. Also rogues had theivs tools they had to carry, shamans had the totems in bags.
Im not on an RP realm, i care about those things, as do a lot of players. You can disagree man, but dont generalize the player base. You asked for a list, I gave you one. Thanks for being polite in your responses its refreshing.
Well, that’s one thing I can’t agree on. If you’re looking for good RP elements then you should be on an RP realm. For some reason, it’s (was) perfectly okay to suggest to players to go to a pve realm if they didn’t like pvp and if they don’t like it then why are they on a pvp realm.
From posts I come across about RP realms, it seems they have a decent community and they do all kinds of events. I also remember my friend introducing me to WoW and starting on an RP realm. I was sitting in the city of the blood elfs and I saw two people speaking(roleplaying) about a dungeon experience. I thought they were NPCs, but they were actually players and that surprised me. I wasn’t aware of roleplaying being a thing so it was a nice surprise to see how well one can immerse themselves into the game they play as well as doing it with like minded people
