They really did casters dirty with the epic staff this phase

I feel like a lot of the QQ around the staff is not necessarily due to the low drop rate. In classic it’s pretty normal for good items to have garbage drop rates, most players understand this. Powerful items should be rare.

But there are other factors that I think are causing extra frustration with the staff:

The staff has a significantly lower drop rate than the other epics. Based off the data it seems the 2h has the highest, followed by the bow, and then the staff. Which is interesting because the 2h and bow aren’t really used by as many specs as the staff. Was this intended or an oversight?

On top of the low drop rate, Kelris has the largest static loot table of 14 items. Akumai has 13, but he can also drop 2 epics. This is small but it does make it that much harder.

Casters have always had terrible items during leveling, and the staff was honestly overbudgeted. The epic 2h and epic bow will be replaced while leveling, so it doesn’t really matter if you don’t have it, but the epic staff would not be replaced until 60, making people more angry when it doesn’t drop because it would be BiS until you get a better staff from gnomer.

And most importantly of all, there simply isn’t a good alternative to the staff like there is for the other weapons from BFD. By alternative, I mean an item that’s somewhat decent or close to it to be satisfied if you never get lucky enough to have it drop. The epic staff gives 15 int, 14 spirit, and 26 damage and healing done by spells.

Yet for the two other staves, staff 1 gives 10 spirit, 5 stam, and 24 healing only. Notice 0 int and 0 spell damage

Staff 2 gives 11 stamina, 26 to healing only, and 17 nature damage (I guess as a free item to caster druids?). 0 int, 0 spirit, and no spell damage for other casters…

Why are these two items so oddly budgeted?

Let’s compare the fathomblade vs. the epic 2h. Neither wep even give stats. DPS for the fathomblade isn’t too far behind the epic. Fathomblade even gives 1% hit increase effect AND a chance on hit effect. Something to look forward to if you don’t get the epic.

Caster 1h suffer from the same problem….offhands and 1h are really weak budget wise AND there is no available enchant for caster 1h.

All of these facts and now you can understand why you see loot QQ more than usual for classic and why you see so many “LFM BFD NEED ALL EPIC STAFF HR”

Caster staff dropped again for my hunters group :}. that makes 5. My priests group has had only 1 :{. My priests group gets all the crossbows.

I’ve seen the crossbow and sword 3 times each, seen the staff once.

I really wish they put in a blue version of it instead of that garbage healing/nature damage staff.

I have 5 clothies in my raid including me. I have seen 3 staffs, 0 3rd boss helms, 2 soul leach pants, 1 pair of gloves, 2 rings, and 1-2 necks. Been raiding every lockout since the second week. I just want my helm already!

It’s a little ridiculous how completely useless the other two staff options are.

Feels like the walking stick should’ve had spell damage on it to begin with.

Never have seen the gloves or soul leech pants or caster ring.

Too much useless loot in BFD for a 60 something day phase.

People keep saying the staff won’t be replaced till 60 like Gnomer and the level 50 raid won’t have even better loot lol.

Newsflash, those raids will have items that will bump up our powerlevels to a similar degree as BFD did. Blizzard aren’t going to release a raid that doesn’t have upgrades for people :rofl:

Obviously there will be better stuff in gnomer. Nobody is saying otherwise. I even mentioned this.

The frustration is that until you get said gnomer drop, the epic staff is way too strong where nothing comes close. The other epics will be replaced while leveling, so it doesn’t really matter if you don’t get those this phase, they won’t be going into gnomer with you like the epic staff will.

Really boils down to making the staff too strong with no alternative.

lol i’ve done BFD every lockout since i hit 25, well almost anyway. The hunter weapon has dropped so many times I’ve lost count. I’ve seen the staff like twice and lost both rolls. Blah.

Fortunately I’ve got dagger of willing sacrifice + tome of cavern lore. it’s not as good but it’s kinda close. 19 sp vs 26 is like a whole blue item but it could be worse.

at this point i don’t really care that much because the phase is ending, but it would have been nice to be able to enjoy the staff while it was relevant. :stuck_out_tongue:

My priest and warlock are both hatless and staffless. :disappointed:

That is the only option we have to even come close. Comes with it’s own frustration of having to get two items, don’t really see the tome or that dagger drop very often either. The other two daggers, which are a lot worse, are extremely common of course. Probably have the ritual dagger like 9 times now, yet it’s so awful.

You know what item I hate more than the staff?

Jagged Bone Necklace. There’s no other caster staff at all this phase, I’ve never seen the thing drop at all. I’m wearing the damned Sentinel’s Necklace. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t understand your logic… so because something is stronger than its counterparts, it should be made even more accessible? You said yourself that this would be used until 60 (aside from fact Gonomergan comes between that), does that somehow make you more entitled to it? Fact is, most hunters don’t have crossbow, most warriors don’t have the epic, and most casters don’t have the staff. It’s rare and if you get it you’ll have it for a very long time. If you don’t get it, casters don’t scale that much from gear anyways compared to MM/ Warriors; you’ll live. It was never meant to be an assurance for you.

i have cleared bfd 11 times now and i saw zero epics of anything. I did make my own epic gloves but no staffs/bags/sword/xbow
