so i was lvling through dungeons as guardian druid earlier today until i joined a group that was doing atal dazar. Right off the bat i knew it was going to be a bad run do to the hunter instantly aggroing the first pack of small dinos by running straight into it even though the rest of us were able to slip by. that itself isnt the worst of it however because right after they ran into the first group they proceeded to run into the second group on the way down to the skeletal trex. I then jumped in trying to help, but as i was doing that they decide to run ahead and have me do the work for them. After that we got down to the first boss and everything was going good until the dinosaur started to chase me. I was leading him on the outer edge in order to avoid the bone piles, but being the brain dead dungeon grinders they are they let themselves be led right into the bone piles while they were attacking the boss. the raptors got aggroed on the healer while i was still busy with the boss and after they killed him everything went downhill and we wiped. Right after the first wipe they decided to kick me even though it wasnt my fault and (they must have been in a group or something because that kick was super fast). that kick then left me with a 30 min dungeon deserter. The main moral of that story is that random groups are dumb and there shouldnt be a dungeon deserter penalty for people who are kicked because their group was a bunch of moronic jerks
I would agree. Whether it is islands or dungeons, getting the deserter debuff after you are kicked from the group is an unnecessary annoyance and delay.
However somehow someway someone figured out to abuse it which is likely why we can’t have nice things.
Yeah I agree as well. Many times people are kicked unfairly in instances, and it’s always sad.
A lot of people click the “kick” button automatically without even thinking.
The deserter debuff should be given just for quitters, afks…
i heard it was do to tanks who didnt want to put up with crappy groups but also didnt want to wait a half an hour. what they did was basically force their groups to kick them by throwing or pretending to go afk
tbh i would probably do it too if i wasnt also forfeiting xp
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand everyone wonders why there is such a shortage of tanks? Who would put up with that kind of crap for long?
what about people who are kicked because they are the jerk? should those people get a deserter debuff?
how is the game supposed to know programmatically who is at fault when there are human perceptions/interactions involved?
It wasn’t so much tanks that didn’t want to put up with crappy groups so much as they just didn’t want to do the instance. They’d queue with the RDF, get thrown into an instance they didn’t want, and then refuse to do anything until the group kicked them since their queues were basically instant. It generally had very little to do with the group itself.
And who defines “they were a bunch of jerks”?
That’s the danger with your statement. I could define you as a jerk even if you were the nicest person around.
we could get into philosophy in this thread, but id rather not.
the point of that small segment was mainly just for comedic value and to summarize. i have no real ill will against them (accept maybe for that oblivious hunter)
So adds got spawned on that boss and you didn’t pick them up and let the healer die to them. No wonder they decided to boot you.
Except the boss (Rezan) was chaseing me with pursuit and if I had stopped to help them I would have either died or would have been stunned so that I couldn’t have helped even if I tried. You either have not played tank in retail (which can get stressful at times) or you don’t know how the fight works.
Honestly it doesn’t really bother me. When people pull I just gather up the mobs I was going to and let them tank the mobs they pulled. They’re big kids and have working legs, they can bring their mobs to me and MAYBE my aoe will pick it up.
Sometimes I “misplace” my aoe and taunt and magically find it again when the dps who pulls dies.
Is it just me or has everyone else noticed that all these complaints about then deserter debuff seem to never be that persons fault, it’s always the other players in the group who are bad.
I usually just deal with people like that in order to get bonuses for being tank like extra loot or xp.
Also, God knows how many times I have had a hunter in my group that pulls way too many with their gattling gun ability (don’t know the name). Wonder which one of the devs thought that was a good move to put into the game
We can always ignore that distinction and fall back to the definition of the word “deserter,” which doesn’t apply when you’ve been forcibly removed from a group.
So, I just reread your post, OP.

the raptors got aggroed on the healer while i was still busy with the boss and after they killed him everything went downhill and we wiped.
It’s your job as a tank to grab the aggro, you didn’t do your job. They had every right to kick you for not doing the role you signed up for.

Also, God knows how many times I have had a hunter in my group that pulls way too many with their gattling gun ability (don’t know the name). Wonder which one of the devs thought that was a good move to put into the game
Lolz.
As much as I don’t often defend the decisions the developers have been making of late, blaming developers because players can’t/don’t use their abilities in a tactically appropriate way is ridiculous.
Like I said in an earlier reply, Rezan has an ability that makes it so that you have to run from him or the targeted person gets stunned and takes massive amounts of damage. The damage it does wasn’t the problem, but the stun prevents me from pulling aggro or doing anything else that would’ve helped
Even a poorly aimed spread shot (not on my hunter, forgot its exact name) can draw unwanted aggro.
But Barrage? Yeah, its asking for trouble. I don’t care how powerful it is, I’ve seen Barrage wipe too many groups due to a Hunter’s aim being any bit off and adds come running.

Right off the bat i knew it was going to be a bad run do to the hunter instantly aggroing the first pack of small dinos by running straight into it even though the rest of us were able to slip by.
Bad DPS doing what bad DPS player do. Heard this song way too many times.
The second time they do it on purpose, vote kick.

Right after the first wipe they decided to kick me even though it wasnt my fault and (they must have been in a group or something because that kick was super fast).
Dont ever discount the idea that it was the joker who caused the problem who initiated the kick to get attention off himself. Ive seen that happen a few times.
