They are nerfing my favorite ability

I’ve read touch of death will no longer kill, but instead inflict 100% of you hp in damage.
This is disappointing.
Im not a monk main, but i really loved playing monk for this ability

How is this different from how it works now? Where did you see this? I see nothing about it in the 11.0.7 PTR patch notes

You exploit the enemy target’s weakest point, instantly killingdealing damage equal to 100% of your maximum health to [Improved Touch of Death: creatures if they have less health than you / them.

Wording change is my guess? ToD should still work the same in PVE. Sometimes it doesnt really always “instantly kill” a target in pve, esp if you have the improved ToD talent where you can use it on bosses with 15% health of less.

I don’t pvp but if you look at the 11.0.7 wowhead talent calculator under the abilities at the bottom “touch of fatality” is still there. ( kills creatures under lvl 50 and players under 20% hp instantly )

If that is what you meant by no longer killing? I think it will still in the game for pvp and unchanged for pve.

So my guess is that they just altered the wording for clarity purposes. Pretty sure it will function the same.

Also I pulled up the 11.0.7 patch notes on wowhead from 6 hrs ago and all of the MW changes that went through with 11.0.5 recently are still listed for 11.0.7, except this ToD wording change. Not sure why they have the changes that went through already listed again for 11.0.7. Who knows tbh :3

Isn’t this technically a buff? Usually by the time ToD “realizes” it can be used the mob has much lower HP than you.
Unless ToD used to ignore damage reduction buffs, in which case it is in fact a nerf in some cases like tirna scythe first boss.

I’m good with this. Half the time in raid by the time it flashes on adds, I pop it but the adds are almost dead and I don’t get the full amount. An execute style skill for ST would be a buff.

This is not a nerf. At worst it’s a wording change, at best it works a little better.

I don’t think it can ignore damage reduction effects.

In PVP, for instance, it doesn’t go through massive damage reductions like rogue’s Cheat Death. I would expect the same in PVE.

I believe I have actually used touch of death in a legacy raid on a boss that gets a 99% damage reduction or so (General duo boss in Castle Nathria* I think?) and it didn’t kill them just chunked them a lot. I had low gear then, like 560 ilvl as a WW
