I posted this on the bug reporting section but I wanted to post it here also to see what everyone thinks of this.
I want to address the bugs/exploits people have been using liberally in wow classic that need changes – Dire Maul East (DME) solo runs and ghetto hearthing. These are exploits in the sense that players take advantage of game mechanics and benefit from this by either making a lot of gold or simply saving a lot of travel time.
I’ll start with DME. Here, players exploit the mob pathing of mobs and bosses to solo the instance and clear all the way to the mining nodes at the end which yield a sought after item – arcane crystals. This has been no secret since DMEs release but because it is so available and easy to do, people run with it and don’t call it out for what it is – an actual exploit. I think removing the current pathing can make it so players are not able to exploit and thus not solo this dungeon that was meant to be cleared with more than 1 player.
The second exploit is ghetto hearthing. With ghetto hearthing, someone goes into a dungeon with a party, disbands party and then is sent to their hearthstone location regardless of the cooldown remaining on the hearthstone. This issue was fixed around Wrath of the Lich King expansion, if I remember correctly, and it was a welcome change. It made mages and warlocks abilities (portals and summons) more useful and sought after.
To wrap it all up, this game has several bugs still, but I believe fixing these 2 bugs will improve gameplay and make for a more enjoyable experience for everyone. Instances like DME are not meant to be a solo grind and hearthstones should not be able to be used off cooldown. Which is why I am asking the Bug team to take a look at these and consider making these changes.
Yeah, there’s a lot of stuff that needs to be fixed like this.
They won’t even stop the botting though so I wouldn’t hold your breath. Maybe since we’ve recently seen some things being done like Gorshak being fixed they will keep moving down the list but for some reason I doubt it.
8-9 months ago I would have been on board 100% with the dungeon pathing and reset point fixes.
However there are sooooo many people that have used DM E as a gold farm and inflated the economy to such an insane level that if you now removed that farm it would do a lot more harm than good. People that already have 10s of thousands of gold would continue to have that while the newer players that haven’t farmed that amounts would be stuck, unable to acquire more due to the nature of the AH. It is just no longer a wise solution.
That AND the fact that people did these farms in vanilla, they just were not as widely spread s they are today.
Blizzard needs to address the mega server issue before anything. I think you do address valid points though, I’m not sure if the hearthing situation is that big of a deal though. I used to use unstuck for this same issue back in vanilla/tbc.
They’re not bugs, they existed in Vanilla (at some point) and are included because of “no changes”. Doesn’t matter if they result in broken play, Blizzard won’t change them.
“they’re not bugs” “doesn’t matter if they result in broken play” you contradict yourself with these statements. I don’t think you can look at anyone directly in the eye and tell them they are currently working as intended.
Not considered an exploit. Taking advantage of mob pathing is literally what makes a lot of popular dungeon farms viable. It’s the exact reason why I leveled my hunter to 60 to be able to do solo DM tribute runs which I’ve probably made over 20,000 gold from at this point.
The intention is to make the game vanilla like. Whether or not it’s “broken” is mere opinion and is frankly irrelevant.
Also, we don’t define what is and isn’t a bug. The developers do. What you consider a “bug” may in fact be a feature even if it was not initially intended.
It certainly is working as it used to. Whether it should be changed is a different matter, I don’t think the current AOE farming is good for the game but Blizzard has shown they don’t want to improve Classic in any meaningful way.
You shouldn’t attempt to “improve” Classic for the same reason you shouldn’t attempt to “improve” the Mona Lisa. It’s a museum piece. It’s here for us to enjoy vanilla as it was.
At this point such a change would just exacerbate the gap between the haves and have nots. Too late buddy. This is a convo that should have happened before phase 1 went live.
I knew the people against this would be those who continuously use these exploits. A poster did admit to leveling a hunter just to do Tribute runs. It’s this mentality of abusing mechanics and no changes that has affected the game in a negative leaving us with a lot of the problems we have in-game right now. Blizz has made changes to classic (black lotus and removing exp from Gorshak) so hopefully they listen and implement these other adjustments to improve the state of the game.
