Look at p99. People are playing classic, and they have to go through hoops just to run it. Because it’s not meant to go past windows 2000.
Classic was never supposed to be a “successor” to Retail. It was meant to be there, if you wanted it.
Assuming I want to play TBC Classic. I do not. Already lived it.
I would consider staying around for a Classic+ if Blizz did a really good job telling us about all the unfinished stuff from the past that they plan to make real.
This company sucks now. They’ve done everything to trim the edges, and make themselves as fiscally lean as possible. They’ve gouged customers and contorted the game with their analytics leading the charge. They’ve tainted the experience with all sorts of in-game crap to buy and less customer service.
A lot of the decisions Blizz has made has messed up our in-game culture, and it’s messed up their corporate culture. We have literally been taken to the cleaners over the years and are still being told to stick around, for what is unfortunately and barely a service provider to a cold hollow cylinder of a game.
Well, only roughly 1500 people play at a time on p1999, however there’s only one server, so that server feels completely full.
Classic WoW would be able to do the same thing. Reduction in numbers just means server mergers and reduction in total server numbers. You’d never actually notice once inside the server though. I’d say classic could last an almost eternal amount of time, even if it meant there was only 1 server
I haven’t even set foot in MC yet. I’m not too worried about content running out.
all the people who quit @ naxx will not be missed.
Hopefully Blizz doesn’t release ZG till like September and AQ in 2021. Hopefully Naxx isn’t until fall 2021.
People are supporting classic so they release TBC… and actual, polished game that dominated MMO’s for 5 years.
I don’t see them releasing WOTLK, as that was on the tail end of popularity before acti blizz merged phone games like pokemon and kung fu panda into WOW.
Not all of us are gone! I’m still grinding my way to 60! I think people underestimate the size of the filthy casual population. It always has been the majority of players. Eventually classic wow will decline significantly, but I’d be surprised if it goes away entirely anytime in the next few years.
One thing I’ll say, if they force my classic characters to roll into TBC, it will likely be the end of my wow subscription. Unless Shadowlands is truly amazing, I am done with gaming treadmills.
Edit: comment #69. Nice.
This is going to take a while. Naxx was out for over a month in vanilla and only about 50 guilds in the world ever cleared it.
OK so i was way off on both.
100 guilds pre 2.0.1 (which still isn’t that many) … but it was out for over 3 months.
That’s also only US/EU.
So 95% of players in vanilla?
World of Warcraft officially launched in June 2005, and the player base ballooned to 1.5 million active players in China , Engadget reported.
No idea about Korea or anywhere else. No idea how many Chinese guilds managed to gear up and clear Naxx in that time, probably not many.
CN Stars
CN zixia
CN Exile Oblivion
KR NaRSha
KR Abyss n Cool Empire
KR Team Evolution
stage 1 - no one will play it
stage 2 - this popularity will end in 2 weeks
stage 3 - PVP imbalance will kill classic
stage 4 - ???
stage 5 - naxx will kill classic
Do I drive my 72 cutlass everyday to work. No…but i love being able to if i want to. Classic wont die, it’s just like the oceans waves, or the sunrise and sunset. Constantly flowing around us, always there to be seen and heard. That’s why it’s here and will always be, for us, just like an old used sweater that fits just right, all worn in and still somewhat soft. Sure it doesn’t smell the same, and the colors are faded, but we love it.
(Sorry at work atm, hard to have complete thoughts while answering phones. But you get my drift)
I think the hardcore progression guilds will suffer more attrition than the guilds set up to enjoy the content at a more reasonable pace. If your yardstick for success is just your own upgrades, classic has a shelf life. If it’s shared experience and team performance (parsing, best times, etc) then it has a much longer lifespan.
