There shouldn't be sharding...

If the servers sizes start out low, like in the 2.5k range, there shouldn't be the need of sharding. Also, with sharding and other people talking about spreading sharding to other areas after the starting areas will start to kind of mess with the status of who has the best gear, guilds, pvp ranks, etc.. on each server. I can understand a very small sharding period it the beginning of the launch, but sharding needs to go away completely for the authentic game play to come into full effect. Player status/ranking on each server is and was very important in Classic/Vanilla WOW.
you see

this is what most people who are complaining about sharding do not understand.

blizzard is going to release MASSIVE servers... not normal servers...

why? because of tourists.. eventually tourists will leave. and that will drastically hit the population.

so a population that starts out at 10k will end up at like 2-3k once the tourists are gone.

blizzard will NOT start with small servers then merge them because that is stupid. they hate merging servers.. it requires so much more work and ends up with a crap ton of tickets form crybabies asking for their names and w/e.

big server with momentary sharding is much easier on everyone, both the player and blizzard.
Agreed. As long as they are able to recreate the game with making huge changes such as insane population caps, we don’t need to make a lot of additional changes such as sharding.

Agreed if they need to do it for that purpose, but in the end, it needs to go away completely.

This means Blizzard needs to release a very large number of servers at launch to meet initial demand. Without a large number of servers, queue times would be insane.

with sharding and other people talking about spreading sharding to other areas after the starting areas

They've already said they want to keep it very limited, so that everyone can play at launch with minimal queues and server issues.

I agree that there shouldn't be sharding after the launch and after starting zones.
Without it though, you're asking for Blizzard to create a ton of unnecessary additional servers that will have to be merged a few months after launch.
Sharding isnt going to be a big deal. Ya'll need to calm down.

Exactly this. I am loving seeing people’s ‘ideas’ on how they think it should be done though, they are hilarious.
