I’ve been spam soloing WC Lord Cobrahn on my druid for the leggings and started to think… “This is the kind of thing that should be added to get good gear solo since gear competition and RNG is terrible”. Things players can do solo that take some patience and skill to complete, and require knowing how to play your class, that not only reward good (raid level) gear, but are also FUN. Raiding is mind numbing and frustrating, and gets boring quickly. However, personal loot also sucks. The less RNG the better.

The best gear should always be group content. Purely solo content should not give any gear beyond starter leveling content.

There is some merit to it though, by making the best gear through group content it incrntivises group play and social experiences.
That being said, raids are, themselves, pretty boring, and they have to be to accomodate the lowest common denominator. Raiders dont like to hear it, but raids are actually THE most casual way of acquiring gear. Log in once a lockout, do 30 minutes of raiding, get loot, log out. Super casual.
Its just a whole can of worms though, to allow solo content to provide raid adjacent gear. If the gear is bis, it will basically become mandatory, and if its not, most people will just ignore it. In an ideal world it would be better than preraid, but worse than raid gear, but by a small enough margin that its competitive with raid gear, but not de facto autopick by everyone.

Nope, absolutely not. Classic is an old school mmo where group play is always the center over solo play. If you want a solo friendly fake mmo, retail is waiting for you.

This is an MMO. So best gear should stay in group content.

I feel like Classic has a ton of things like this, but sometimes people complain about them, I they are sometimes capable of automation, like some of the mage dungeon farming techniques for example.
Some other classes also have some interesting solo farms as well. DM: East lasher farms on a Paladin for example was kind of a good entry-level type of farm. I’m not sure how viable these sorts of things will be going forward with the changes to instance logout resets putting you in the nearest GY instead of the front of the instances, but I guess we’ll see what we figure out.

Nothing about an MMO implies that you must be in groups with people to progress your gear. It just means other people are playing around you.
I can level up a solo no problem, and there’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to gear up solo.

SOD is not classic. That has been done already The no changes crowd can go jump in a hole. Phase 2 is just going to make that more clear.

SOD is classic+, they said as much in blizzcon “classic…plus so much more”, aka adding things to classic that align with the vanilla philosophy.
It’s fine if classes have a few BiS pieces that come from soloable content (farming, quests, crafting, etc.). Most high-end gear should still come through group content.
Just to set this up… The last time I had actually raided in WoW was the start of Cata. For the most part after that I very randomly even joined guilds.
I joined a guild the first night SOD went live and I’m still in that same guild. I have a main raid character. Then I fill in for the other main teams when someone can’t make it and do Alt raids too…
It’s really not that difficult other than the RNG of what is going to drop that raid.
Its called adding heirlooms. But I don’t know I seem to be doing just fine with grey and white items…
