There should be a melee Mage spec

Like the Nightborne spellblades or like Red Mages from Final Fantasy or Sages from Ragnarok Online. I want to play a clothy but I can’t stand casters. Why are there no melee specs that are cloth? This is a travesty.

There’s enough melee in the game as it is don’t ya think?

Careful what you wish for…

But none of them are clothies. None of them fulfill the class fantasy of being the Mage that isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty. There is no Battle Mage. Closest thing is Enhancement Shaman but that that’s more of a furious elemental warrior than anything else.

honestly a tank arcane knight spec or a chronomancer healing spec would be cool

I’ve always wanted a battle mage spec. Enhance is the nearest to it.

Do you know something about it

Arcane has to get into melee range for AoE. That’s kind of like a melee mage. In a dumb kind of way.

So we have a tank and healing spec? Just throw in some sort of Spellblade like the Nightborne and we have a class.

sure, i wouldn’t mind more classes having the utility to tank or heal TBQH. shaman geomancers is another example i’d like to see at some point. regardless though i wouldn’t mind a new spellblade class either :woman_shrugging:

I’d rather have mage tank.

A mage is the squishiest class in the game. Putting a melee weapon in their hands would only end badly.

There’s a reason there are no cloth melee.

You just give the spec some sort of passive armor bonus. Like Arcane Armor gives you triple armor or something, enough to put them around whatever leather and mail has.

Not another melee class please… for the love of god no…

No more melee, we need more ranged specs.

My vote is for Spellblades or Bloodmages. I would love for there to be a Class that the specs are Lich, Necromancer, and Bloodmage/Bloodpriest. Necromancer would be your caster/summoner, Bloodmage/Bloodpriest would be your heal through damage or self healing cloth tank, and Lich would be a cloth tank that focuses on frost magic and armor.

I’ve always felt that Arcane Mages would make good spellblade-type folks, never was the biggest fan of stand in place and spam Arcane Blast

Mages can use swords, why not have them use their blinking and such to be a mix of swordplay and ranged spells, kinda like an illusionist swordsperson

There’s a class in Guild Wars 2, Mesmer, which is basically a sword swinging spellcaster who could use ranged attacks, illusions, and various strikes, dancing across various distances to attack

Feel like it would be a fun hybrid idea

You are describing Paladin, but purple.

I mean Paladins are trying to close the distance, most of their ranged tools are just to keep them in the face of someone, they really don’t have much power from a distance

My idea of a sword swinging Arcane Mage would be kinda like a dance of swinging up close, withdrawing to pepper with spells, and then closing the distance again, kinda something like that

what would be the benefit of going back into ranged (given that your DPS is highest in melee)?
