When King Terenas said “There must always be a Lich King” what he TRULY meant by that is if there wasn’t a Lich King there would be 5-14 Ghouls max who would appear here and there from time to time in Azeroth and Capital cities they will be 100% passive and attack nobody and even play with kids and teach them good manners and how important safe spaces are and then they will die by themselves after 1-5 minutes.
It will be annoying to clean those ghouls once in a while but beside that we are all good, its just that King Terenas HATED cleaning so for him it was a big deal.
I mean most people including myself just wanted some way to opt out. I was there for the first one and it was a mess. Blizz was the one who decided to nerf it which I didnt agree with. There was definitely some middle ground between the two and that wasnt it, Like a debuff after being killled/turned so afterwards you could get stuff done, or talking to the argent to give you a protection spell for a short period. The nerf was just laziness on blizz’s part
and lets be honest we were going to repel the remaining scourge regardless of the number of them with a decimated army, in about 3-4 weeks time. The warning “there must always be a lich king” was never gonna make sense since our armies are the weakest they’ve ever been.
So why didn’t they make pre-patch be Maw monsters invading, kinda like the demons did in legion pre-patch, rather than ghouls? Heck maw monsters running all over would have even given us a reason to invade shadowlands.

The Scourge is supposed to be such a massive army that they would’ve crushed us with or without a Lich King. That’s why we needed one. It’s a forgotten plot point now, which retroactively ruins the ending of WotLK.
It should’ve been complete mayhem on Azeroth. It should feel like we need to hurry up and fix this issue because the Scourge is literally destroying our world as we speak.
Well i mean yeah this is the wow community we’re talking about here. Blizz could randomly delete 2 classes and people would defend it saying how its a good change.
Its blizzards responsibility to decide what is a reasonable request and what isn’t. Personally I think they’re behind schedule and instead of addressing concerns they just decided to take the easy way out. It’s really a shame.
They could have done a little safe zone in the cities that covered the AH and bank, like the dome over Dalaran back in the day. Then let the scourge run rampant over Azeroth, even inside the cities threatening anyone outside the barrier.
Then you’d feel like you were under attack and there could be a daily event to replenish the barrier, but have an event the day of launch where the barrier breaks down.
That or just make it so portals cleanse the debuff or something. I dunno, but I definitely agree there was a middle ground solution they just whizzed right by.
