There is no universal best/optimal/meta build!

No it doesn’t. Most CE guilds outside of the top 200 US or so spend a week or more per boss. You can definitely still change conduits for each progression boss, and we don’t know how bad the covenant swap back will be but you might be able to do that also in a week.

Let’s be realistic here, most CE guilds people build around the last boss.

You’re not going to take the best aoe covenant if the last boss is a ST affair.

if mythic bosses are getting harder…

what’s a good amount of mythic bosses to have down now? i see ralph has 4. is he going to do better next expansion because of it or why is he so excited about them being harder?

Yeah the last boss is really everything in Mythic. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see people figure out which covenant is best for the last boss, then intentionally not pick it until they get there to potentially make the other bosses easier, and make the covenant swap free.

I was reading on Twitter that there’s a a bunch of bosses that stack bleeds… and that there’s a covenant that removes bleeds. doesn’t sound like that will be too hard to optimize for with the choice being so obvious lol

Unfortunately Ralph won’t have 7 months to Prog on a tier next tier.

Think our biggest pull count was Carapace at like 42 pulls after Nzoth.

Like the earlier bosses lately have been 0 threat encounters.

I would be careful of that. If you post it again and again in every thread he makes. Not only could you get busted for spam, but could potentially be harassment.

He’s got me blocked anyway, he can’t see any of the mean words I say.

Those bosses are fairly early I think. I raid tested Huntsman and he had multiple bleeds, but he is also listed as the 2nd boss in the dungeon journal so I don’t think it would be worth changing covenants since it will likely be very easy.

Ok, I guess it don’t matter then. I just wanted to make sure you was aware of the potential outcome.

I don’t really care. Playing well and speccing how I feel like lets me do +15s now and it will in Shadowlands.

We need to start taking bets on how many hours pass before he’ll make a new topic that says exactly the same thing.

At this point I’m beginning to think Ralph is a plant.

Yeah. Believe it or not, our highest pull count outside of N’zoth was Hivemind at 60 pulls haha. But we had some roster issues where we didn’t have a 3rd tank 1 day and we were missing a healer the next day. There was no real wall in Nyalotha like Ashvane or Mekka in previous raids.

The best Azerite trait for Balance druids does approximately infinitely more damage than the worst trait. The worst trait doesn’t actually do anything if there’s under 6 or 7 targets and all those targets need to live a long time.

In the best case scenario for that worst trait, it’s still a solid 3-4 times worse than the best AoE trait.

“There’s no universal best.” But there’s plenty of choices that are always wrong.

I do want to optimize my characters, but I also really like playing around and experimenting. I’ve heard you can ‘trial’ the covenant abilities, but being unable to get a true feel for them by taking them into actual content for a spin - I don’t know if that’s going to sit well with me.

The way I see it, I’ll pick the one I think seems cool, and then just … deal with the consequences later.

Let’s spitball some ideas

Let’s assume the first raid is 10 encounters, first 6 bosses are heavy cleave encounters last 4 stress single target. As a Mythic raider I would go with whatever covenant gave me the best cleave damage (or utility) until my team got to the bosses where I needed single target focus then I’d switch covenants and go with the single target setup.

Let’s throw a wrench in that idea and say every other encounter requires single target focus, then you’d want to pick the covenant that will help you the most on the hardest fights. Say the first encounter is and easy cleave fight and covenant choice is moot but the second fight requires more ST focus, I’d go ST.

Finally there’s the 5head (theorycrafters), the 5head will figure out what covenant is best for each spec depending on the content you want to do. I absolutely guarantee there will be a list before launch. Just read that and do that gg.

Honestly, if you’re a serious-minded mythic raider you’re probably in a guild that will kill 5 or 6 of those bosses in under 20 pulls and you won’t actually need to worry about optimizing for them at all.

What people will do - the people who aren’t gearing up multiple characters, anyways - is pick covenants to optimize for whatever boss is predicted to be the guild stomper. Usually an endboss or near the end.

Yeah that’s what I predict to happen, choose your covenant based on the guild killer lol

If you run a sim on your character, you’ll see how wrong you are. You probably won’t, since you’re likely busy making another thread.
