Almost every single legendary world quest pet battle has been some cheating mechanic in 8.2. Full heals, immunity, perm stone skin. I think the devs who made this don’t play their own game. They are a waste of flesh and should be fired.
We can cheese it also with Ikky, Unborn Valk and Zandalari Raptor, like 80% of both zones can be done with those 3 pets.
gotta agree 100% with the OPs premise. It would be much better if all the leg pets had higher stats instead of special mechanics that only they have access to.
It’s about multiplying your damage. Haunt, black claw, stampede, etc. These fights have almost all had the same strategy to beat them.
these “cheating” mechanics are what give the new battle a much needed challenge, although I’m very glad that there isn’t a brawler achievement this time
I’ve been finding my own ways to beat the WQ boss pets, but yeah- a lot of them require or are more easily beaten with damage multipliers.
I’d like to see Blizz add something new with PvE pet battles next patch, maybe some NPC AI to make some master tamers more unpredictable. (Like pet PvP I guess)
And without those cheating mechanics the fights would be super trivial and boring. Even in their current state they’re quite easy to beat. It’s also much more interesting than just giving them buffed stats, which is just another way of cheating in a way. Whether it’s abilities we can’t get or stats we can’t reach the enemies always have to be buffed in some way since we get to choose the counters to them.
I’d rather the ai pets have better abilities and stats to using random moves. Makes the battle more of a puzzle game than anything else as you need to figure out how to counter their moves and beat them (assuming you don’t Unborn/Ikky them all).
So far, I haven’t had any issues with them…until Unit 17.
Its either glitched or something, it has an ability on a 4 round CD that lasts for 3 rounds which the tooltip reads that it blocks 50% of damage, it actually blocks 100% of damage. And on another 4 round CD there’s an ability that redirects your next two attacks. Purely by CD cycling, it can keep near 100% uptime on its invulnerability state.
All of the legendary pets have the boss ability that reduces all damage by 50% naturally. his ability reduces damage taken by an additional 50%. In wow pet battles all damage reductions and increases are additives. So 50%+50% = 100% reduced damage taken.
This is also why increased damage taken debuffs are so powerful against them. -50% +100% = +50%. The +100% damage taken debuff makes it so that you are essentially doing triple damage. Or in Unit-17s case -100% +100% = doing normal damage.
Just use pets that hit multiple times in the same round and increase damage taken by 100%, preferably ones that go faster than him, and he’s not so bad.
Knew about that, but for my sanity’s sake, I had hoped the math would have gone 50% base from being a legendary, then of the 50% remaining, that is what’s halved. Basically taking half of half, so 75% reduction overall.
Either way, I call BS on Unit 17. Immensely unenjoyable experience, as opposed to the others which were challenging yet fun to work out and beat.
I didn’t even use multi-hit abilities. I played around and used 3 elemental pets.
I don;t take exception with using OP mechanics for the world quest pets, it should be some challenging content for the dedicated pet battles out there. My issue is that they used the SAME mechanic on every boss making the battles boring because I find myself using the same team for practically every fight (boneshard, ikky, zndalari raptor). Only exception being Unit 17 who has a mechanic that breaks certain damage multipliers.
It would have been nice if they had put some thought into some different unique mechanics.
I was like that at first, but I guess the block is additive, they are blocking 50% as a default, plus another 50% in top of that, that is 100% so you have to do a defensive debuff for sure on that one. Again, Start with Unborn, use doom then ascension, then Ikki and that is it, he is dead before Zandalari even comes in.
I just came here to say I like the new bosses.
to some degree it’s inherent in being a single boss - all you have to do is get enough damage in, once, and you’re done. The only way to make that challenging is to block some damage, and there’s only so many ways to do that, so variety is limited.
A multi-pet setup (like tanaan) means after you’ve gotten that damage in once, you have to be able to handle the backup as well, which makes it a bit more interesting.
I agree Bonespire, This morning I was finishing up doing all the legendary pets for both zones. Granted to much of my disappointment neither one of the factions got to Revered today. While most of the legendary pets were easy enough with the Unborn Val, Ikky, and Anklebiter combo. One pet one stinking mechanical Oppression legendary no matter what I used at most I would get the pet down to 81 health and then all of a sudden he would use his Ion cannon and just one shot my last pet. After 75 attempts I got so frustrated that I had to stop and do something else.
I’ve only been doing the two WQ pets each day, the last couple in nazjatar were a walkover- a fish and a worm.
So I guess there’s a mix between some easy and some hard fights.
Poorly designed games ultimately fall back into the exact same winning strategy every single iteration. That’s what Pet Battling is. You zerg the boss, and pray that you don’t get hit with bad rng.
