There are only 6 layers on megaservers

Blizzard has gone to nearly twice that in the past. They are subtly trying to farm transfers off of players stuck waiting into a queue instead of actually dealing with the problem.

People would be a lot less hesitant to take the “free” transfers if players were given some incentive other than the queue, or an contingency option to transfer a second time for free in case something goes wrong like the server dies.

I literally just made the same therad 2minutes before you. Its absurd. I was watching it all weekend. Grobb never went past 6 layers once same for Bene, yet SWP Bene went up to 16 and ran fine.

Super dick move to pull during a one time event, especially on a holiday weekend.

But but but…layering is against the spirit of classic. If we add more layers, whats next, rdf? No thanks. Not being able to play is so much smarter.

I feel like a very small vocal minority is causing a bunch of horrible knee jerk changes to the game. The best part is when you look them up they have like no achievements and 0 logs. They don’t even play the game, just spew garb on the forums and Blizzard takes it as gospel.

They really should have people queue to join a “block” transfer, where 3000 horde and 4000 alliance all move to a new server at the same time. Or whatever the number is. So people don’t feel like they might be tricked into getting onto a dead server. If not enough sign up and they don’t meet the quota who wishes to transfer, it doesn’t happen

It’s been proven that only a small, vocal minority actually cared about layers. People much prefer being able to play than staring at a log-in queue.

Turns out they don’t like mega servers so much, just layering and in effect CRZ with 8-12 different servers at any given time

Blizzard changed the population caps. The que has a purpose. Sulfuras will be filled if they have to burn all the servers to the ground to get it done.

This whole situation feels fabricated. Free migrations were available almost immediately after ques began off the mega servers. The two fresh pvp servers have ques while the pve ones don’t have any. Layers being capped on the mega servers leading to intense lag.

I get the feeling ques won’t go away on ANY server until the correct parameters have been met on sulfuras, old blanchey, etc.

Blizzard is on record saying that the que is their tool to get players to migrate to other servers.

They lowered the population caps. On purpose. It’s the stick and carrot method to move people to the servers Blizzard wants.

We had like 11 last week in Faerlina.
Not sure why they’re short now.

Not to throw a wrench into the conversation, where are people seeing how many layers there are? Is this some outside tool or is there an ingame way to do it?

You can write WeakAuras to display it.

This. I use a weak aura. I use weak auras for almost everything to be honest. The addon should just be part of the game at this point.

Ah, I appreciate you boss. Never used WeakAuras myself so I was just wondering if I missed something.

From what Brian says, this is because everyone was on the Isle of Quel’danas. People are mostly in battlegrounds and different cities now queuing up, tons of people leveling with the exp buff, etc.

Here’s a Twitter keyword search of “layer” on Brian’s account:

Seems like server capacity for each server is 15,000 concurrent players. You can run an in-game script with the LookingForGroup channel. Benediction for example has 14,454 people in the channel right now, which means 546 people have left the channel.

/run print(GetChannelDisplayInfo(4))

Join the channel, click the chat channels button (microphone on your chat box) and put the number in that bracket that’s two ahead of whatever your channel is, then run the script.

Here’s what it says on Benediction right now:

Maybe im confusing things but I dont think more layers = more people… They have to add layers when there are more people congregated into one particular area of the map.

So for phase release they can mega scale layers because they know 95% of players logged in will be one particular zone.

I dont think it makes sense to layer 15 times the entire world when everyone is spread out… youll never see anyone leveling in Azeroth or anything.
