Inching closer and closer to my Qiraji allied race, fellers...
But what do you guys think? Might they touch upon Skar'this and the other Neptulon worshiping Naga with those FEET Naga?
Or maybe they have an entirely different place in Naga society?
Or maybe they aren't even Naga at all?
Either way, looks like the Jinyu are gonna be kicked to the curb for potential Fish-Man allied race. And if there's no Jinyu, there will be no Hozen...
Pouring one out my my dookers. ;(
I'm not convinced these new fishy folk are going to be an allied race. Not until I see a female model, anyway, then I'll probably start considering it.
The new mechagnomes seem an infinitely more likely candidate right now.

Thats not a naga. Its a new race that has like 4 people left so they made a death pact to take as many Naga with them before they go extinct.
Whether they are an allied race or not is debatable.
But they aren't Naga.
They are actually sworn enemies of the Naga and on the verge of extinction.

Yeah, not naga. Their name was said at the panel but I don't remember it, let alone how to spell it.
They're a race that were hunted to the brink of extinction by naga and have sworn vengeance. The Alliance befriends them, while the Horde befriends naga slaves like gilblins, makrura, and sea giants.
They look kind of like samurai jinyu, imo. Wouldn't be surprised if they're a jinyu offshoot.
The race in question for anyone unaware:

Ah hell, you guys are right. Damn shame, thought we might actually get some friendly Naga guys in one form or another. Think I should change the title or just let the thread die?
Don't delete it, there's not much to discuss about these guys yet but it'd still be good to have a thread for whatever discussion does come up.
They have an appearance that resembles the jinyu. Maybe they aren’t going to be an allied race, but could lead to the jinyu into becoming an allied race. The jinyu are already part of the Alliance and it would be neat seeing them pop up to help the alliance in an aquatic environment. You would think the Alliance would use their natural gifts in this type of atmosphere.
Obviously the jinyu would need to get a female model and a touch up on their graphical appearance... but I think they would work well.
Maybe there is a connection between the two species and the jinyu can assist them since they are on the verge of extinction.
Just pure speculation, but fun to discuss.

Have to agree that they look a lot more like Jinyu than Naga, and even if they are an offshoot of Naga you can keep them on Alliance as that isn't the Naga I want to play.
Also they already added naga with feet. Those huge brutes in Legion
They look like savage jinyu to me, wonder if they are related.

They look like the deep sea variant of Jinyu, like the deep sea murlocs. I have two theories so far:
Convergent evolution. The deep sea variant of murloc was elevated to a deep sea jinyu, independent of the actual Jinyu. I wouldn't be the least surprised if Azshara has a vestige of the Well of Eternity in Nazjatar.
Deep sea adaptation from regular Jinyu stock. We know from Aszuna that Sea Giants take Jinyu as slaves. And Naga take Sea Giants as slaves. The slaves of my slaves are my... extra slavey slaves?

Yeah, they're almost certainly deep sea jinyu. I just want to know how you're supposed to spell their name!

I never got why Blizzard and the fanbase have this as a requirement for playable races. What's wrong with getting, say, ogres as a playable race and have them be male only? It makes sense given the lack of female ogres in lore that you wouldn't be able to play as one.

Don't forget the Razorfin Jinyu

Well for one thing there ISN'T a lack of female ogres in lore, we've had references to an ogre having a wife as far back as vanilla.

Skytotem beat me to it, yeah -- female ogres exist in the lore. Blizzard just never bothered to make models for them because... Iiiii have no idea. I actually thought WoD would have been the perfect time to introduce them, since there was a big focus on what was left of the ogre empire early in that expansion.
OP should update the title of the thread

Nah, Traveler established there are plenty of female ogres. The only reason we don't see them in game is simply because we don't have models for them, otherwise the Traveler noted that were were many female ogres in the Gordunni.
Well that's what I get for not reading those dull lore tomes. Thanks for the correction. I still don't think having both genders should be a strict requirement for a race being added to the game. We don't require every class for a race.

Strictly speaking, no, it isn't necessarily a requirement. More that I just don't see Blizzard adding any race to the game that doesn't have both a male and female gender option.
Doesn't mean it won't happen though I guess, and as long as the race is interesting I can't say I give a damn. It's just not something I expect them to do.
