"Theme Park"

If they aren’t getting paid for the at least part time job they are performing for ActiBlizz they really should be.

Your name is quite unique+? what does it mean?

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air
You better watch out
There may be dogs about
I’ve looked over Azeroth and I have seen
Things are not what they seem

What do you get for pretending the danger’s not real
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel
What a surprise
A look of terminal shock in your eyes
Now things are really what they seem
No, this is no bad dream

The RngLord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by
With bright knives he releaseth my soul
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
He converteth me to lamb cutlets
For lo, he hath great power and great hunger
When cometh the day we lowly ones
Through quiet reflection and great dedication
Master the art of Mythic
Lo, we shall rise up
And then we’ll make the bugger’s eyes water

Bleating and babbling we fell on his neck with a scream
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream

Have you heard the news?
The dogs are dead!
You better stay home
And do as you’re told
Get out of the road if you want to grow old

ex·plor·a·to·ry is gone, Fun is gone, it now this template of perfection and all be damned!. It used to be a magical science of trial and error thru mix matching a series of connections, but now the devs control every aspect.

Side note why does the world have no boe’s of blue or purples…Something i’ve noticed.

This is just not true.

There are so many ways you can work at progressing a character outside of raid, pvp, m+ or rerolling. If your toon isn’t 394.68 avg ilvl, you still have avenues of gear progression available through completely solo gameplay.

That’s an avg ilvl btw that’s higher than the first few bosses of normal and something you’d get from M+ +7-+8. All solo.

Vanilla just didn’t have this. Even Dungeon Set 2 didn’t provide this level of gameplay, as it was once and done through a quest chain.

Town sets have nothing on transmog and the amount of “town sets” in vanilla was laughably limited as was any mount farming.

Theme park MMOs are referred to as such because you’re taken on a very linear progression path from point A to point B. You get the new expansion, see all the new sights in a linear fashion, and then move onto the next ride (the next expansion). This is a term used by players of more ‘open world’ MMOs where there is no objective, it just simulates a world.

The thing is, theme park MMOs won out over open world MMOs. People like the fantasy of getting isekai’d into some sort of simulated fantastic reality where nothing is off limits but the reality is those games are dull to play and often even more unbalanced than theme park MMOs are.

WoW is open world.

Open world isn’t about the content design, it’s about a seamless continent you can explore freely without bounds.

FFXIV canyon style levels with doors and load screens isn’t an open world. You can climb up the tallest peak (as it’s mostly likely just painted on the skybox anyhow) and then soar down anywhere on the contient. In WoW you can.

I’m at 389 on my sham and 385 on a few others through mostly solo/duo play and “casual” content. LFR, unrated pvp, I think the shaman has 1 or 2 normal vault bosses down but no loot, a mythic 0 on priest and monk also no loot.

It turns into a definite crawl around 385 unless you have BfA/WoD gold and just need to hit your ilvl potential without touching a group.

Still got some ground to cover then. Chop chop.

Just like solo players ask for. More gear even if it takes longer.

You know what I meant.

There is a difference between MMOs where content is made and served to you like modern MMO design, and MMOs of yesteryear where you’re plopped into a world without any real narrative and you just go off and do random quests that don’t form any sort of cohesive narrative, grind mobs, and make your own storylines with other players. No one wants to play those sorts of MMOs. The entire ‘theme park’ moniker is to insult people who play MMOs like WoW because to those people, WoW players do not have the wherewithal to make their own stories in the game.

I was just responding to the proposed argument of ilvl being an issue, which isn’t really the problem to me, I simply stated that if that is your goal it’s going to become stale around 385. Unless you’re sitting on either a fortune of gold or time then it’s probably the point to take a break or reroll.

Sham is on the shelf because it isn’t worth the time/gold to get much higher. I did run the last two in LFR this week but meh. It’s good that I have a stable to play with.

No, you responded to me claiming the current game loop is not much more fulfilling and varried than Vanilla’s game loop.

This is patently false, as proven by the recent Classic release to boot.

Yep. and Tuesday is the worst day because all of the homework resets. :weary:

Yeah, many many people who have been playing long-term are so coped up they cant even tell the hamster loop that they’re running.

yeah, but that doesn’t give us the drake of our choice for DR :stuck_out_tongue:

say w0t now?
:sob:
next you’ll be telling us Santa isn’t real.

Would be pretty cool if it happened. It’s not going to happen though.

let a rabbit dream!

Time exploitation is what developers now resort to when they lack the creativity to keep you engaged via intrinsically interesting content.

That’s why there are a whole lot of us who resubscribe in new expansions to check out the new shinys and see if things have “improved”, while our presence gradually peters out over the course of the expansion once we’ve “ridden all the rides”, letting our subs lapse.

This has been the course for… I’d say the past 3 expansions in my case. Legion was the last one I felt was really “good”.

WoW is more of just a mildly entertaining habit than anything, and with the quality of

being virtually absent these days, I find the people who do spam M+ and raids to be curious people. Odd sense of entertainment y’all have.

Unlike raiding crossroads because there’s no content and everybody is bored.

Now those were the days.

You are a joke of a human being.

WoW is a special breed of Theme Park, however. They don’t want us to bring our own food and beverages and we must keep our arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times. Team 2 developers think they understand what makes the game fun and are quick to cripple unintended interactions that lead to emergent gameplay.

I have played WoW actively since MoP and I can confidently say that DF is my least favorite expansion. The bland story and overt pandering to identity politics is a big turn off. I haven’t played in a week due to a medical problem and I hardly miss it. The only thing that held my attention was Solo Shuffle. But it doesn’t seem worth the expansion cost and monthly subscription.
