The zone from HELL

So, while leveling my zroll I figured I’d finish some zones I’ve done many times before over the years but the game thinks I haven’t. Maybe someday I’ll get Loremaster.

Anyway, a zone I didn’t have completed is Zul’Drak, so I figured what the heck. Might as well… Now, I don’t even feel like playing my zroll anymore.

I had forgotten how awful this zone is. Seems like every other quest has some idiotic special mechanic and most times whatever the mechanic is it’s various degrees of buggy and broken. I honestly think this is the worst designed zone in all of WoW. It’s pretty, but the quests are incompetent broken garbage. It’s no wonder I tended to ignore the zone back in Wrath.

Ah well. I’ve almost leveled out of Wrath on my zroll. Maybe I’ll just give up on Zul’Drak for now, save it for the last Loremaster zone. But… I’m too subborn and I bet I’ll just keep beating my head against this garbage until I have it done.

I tend to avoid Zul’Drak mainly because it’s so gray/overcast/depressing. The snowy half is cool, but you have to do the gray half to get to the snowy half.

Its been so long for me I honestly have no clue which zone this is. I skip over most of the Wrath zones because Ive done them soooooo many times during Wrath, my most active expansion.

i hate almost all of the wrath questing zones. the raids were amazing but the questing… smh. tbc and wrath are the worst parts of questing to me. once you get to cata it’s all fun until you hit cap though.

Sad part is, if I if I really never completed it I know I got damn close. But at some point Blizz wiped out all zone progress. Cata, I think. So, I can’t just go and do the one or too quests I misses back in the day. Have to redo the entire zone.

Actually, that’s not the only sad part. The other sad part is that with all these dumbas s mechanics it’s clear they were trying to make the zone interesting and fun, and that’s great. But they missed the mark so badly. Heck, it might even be fun if all the quest mechanics actually worked right. But they don’t and the zone sucks.

Total opposite for me. TBC and Wrath quests aren’t terribly interesting, but they stack beautifully and are low on gimmicks, which I love. Makes it easy to hit a base, hoover up a nice pile of quests, and spend the next 45m+ running around getting crit done. Even better, if there’s particular quests that rub me the wrong way I can usually skip them without any harm done.

Cata and MoP on the other hand… eugh. It’s a relentless cycle of 2-quest microhubs that are packed with gimmick quests and if you skip one, you can’t continue the zone. Those xpacs are the worst to quest in for me. When my alts hit that bracket I’ll usually switch to dungeons and BGs and stop questing entirely until I hit WoD/Legion.

In defence of Northrend!

It was pretty cool back then. Tech was new, they were super into phasing for the first time and hey, it was practice for Ulduar’s first boss!

The upsetting part to me is the incredible amount of bugs nowadays. On Wrath and Pandaria.

Those bugs weren’t there before, i was there. Seems like old quests are low priority at the moment on the bug list.

make sure to report the bugs you find, in theory someday someone at Blizz will fix them.

My first time in Zul’Drak was on this toon and while I totally agree that the place is bleak and depressing, I felt that was an important theme for me, Troll-Watching-Other-Trolls-Betray-And-Kill-Their-Own-Gods/Loa. Through the first few zones in WotLK, I was just chugging along, killing Vrykul or Worgen or Zombies or whatever, but when I got to Zul’Drak, the war in the north really meant something to me.

i can understand why you say that but cata was when i built my alt army so i have fond memories of the zones in a way a lot of people did in wrath. for me i only had a paladin since vanilla and a druid i made in wrath. but i ended up making like 03948503498503498503945345 characters in cata and i had so much fun doing those quests/dungeons. though now you couldn’t get me into cata tw if you paid me. lol

Oh i do! But still, it’s been 6 months for example since I first saw the bug from WoD first dungeon, where you never get out of combat for the entire dungeon. Still see it happen and still report it

Wish I worked for Blizz, in theory I could be the one fixing stuff… but I know they would probably never hire me since I have a lot of problems and don’t have education and am not qualified I guess.

The amount of time it took my 120 mage to finish up the Betrayal part was mind numbing.

Ahh yeah that’s understandable. Having started in patch 1.6 the bulk of my alts were rolled in late vanilla, TBC, and WotLK so I know questing in that version of Azeroth like the back of my hand. So comfy, I think I could do original Azeroth 10k times and still find some fun in it.

There are plenty of zones that have caused me to question “Why” after having went through the entire zone doing all the quest.

Some zones are fun, some like Vol’dun where I started off strong and near the end I was like “Christ almighty is it over with yet”.

It probably won’t happen, but it’d be pretty interesting if Blizz open sourced WoW and all of its content whenever it comes time to shut the game down. I’d bet the community would do a surprisingly good job of patching things up.

Tell me about it. That suuuuuucked! Talk about buggy. And there there’s the part where that skeleton dude Malmortis is showing you around the place except some invisible mob keeps killing him before he can finish. Good times!
Found a workaround in the Wowhead comments but the comments also show this part has been bugged for YEARS. Just awful.

B is for boost.

Stormsong is like this. The entire opening story arc is awesome, but then suddenly the Horde are attacking Brennendam for, uh, reasons and there’s quillboar everywhere. It’s kinda crazy how quickly a zone can go from amazing to “y tho”.

i still haven’t gotten alliance loremaster because the quests legit were some of the worst quests i’ve ever seen in the entire time i’ve played the game. i think i did most of tirisgarde on my shaman and it was by far more enjoyable than the other two.
