I finished the campaign yesterday. It’s been a heavy work week, but I thought the quests you do with Xal were well-written so as not to fall into the formulaic “Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend.”
For example, the way she brings the oracles into the fold, by manufacturing a crisis and then solving it. That’s the kind of neutral-chaotic thing that a creature like Xal would do. And I don’t remember another major character doing anything like that.
She’s supposed to do what it takes to achieve her goals. And so far, she is. She’s right to be worried about Dimensius, and since we routinely kill titans, old gods, the Jailer, and the Burning Legion, why wouldn’t she want to work with us.
Also Alleria is…sort of allied with us? It’s not like she’s a part of the Alliance high command, and there isn’t really a command structure right now anyway. So one of the Windrunner sisters doesn’t like her. Ok? What have they done for Azeroth?
Personally I like how the writing is going, and maybe that changes, but as of August 8th, 2025, I kinda like this story.
Xal and Zovaal playing feetsies with those gross grippers
Any character that destroys an entire city and murders thousands of people should always be a villain. It is poor writing, it was when they did it with Sylvanas, and it still is now with Xal’atath.
It still isn’t great now. To each their own, but it is just rehashing the Sylvanas story. A crazed/emotional elf destroys a city and Blizzard 180s to have us work with them or accept quests from them. It is amateur levels of writing and logic to me personally.
So what you’re saying is that because of Action A in Act 1, the character must be evil forever, even if the circumstances change?
Sorry, but I disagree. She’s going to die if she doesn’t resolve a situation. And she does what it takes to get what she wants. If she didn’t work with us, it wouldn’t be believable for her.
As for us, yeah I’ll give you that our reason for helping her isn’t compelling but ONLY because the threat hasn’t been shown to us. Obviously, Dimensius is an existential crisis. I just don’t know how WE know that.
If you destroy a city and murder thousands, yes. At the very least it should be a personal decision for each player character to work with her or not, but it isn’t. It just isn’t good writing to me.
Even Darth Vader was irredeemable to me after watching the prequels. Its just the same thing here, some crimes and acts are unforgiveable.
I just really hope theres a twist at the end of the raid bro.
Please blizzard dont make it so we just empower xal for her to turn around and use it against us. That plot line can only be used so many times before it becomes terrible.
She’s never been set up as an ally. Even her artifact weapon was steeped in treacherous behavior and lore. It is just poor writing, but if you like it, I respect it.
