Without giving away spoilers, there was another “we stand together” cinematic in 10.2 and at this point it just seems like we keep recycling the same trope over and over. What happened to having villains that did more than talk? I’m not saying we need everything to be dark and gloomy but there is no sense of threat when everything is just defeated with “the power of friendship”. There needs to be balance here. None of the “big bad” plot points really carry through or leave me with any sense of emotion. Not everything needs to be positive/hopeful. Maybe kill off a major character or two and create a sense of urgency or threat. And no, Vyranoth doesn’t count as a major character if she ends up sacrificing herself.
Too many hippies.
I was at the AH trying to buy something the other day and some hippie is talking to be about Life being Universal justice or something? Clearly inebriated. Then she tells me to go defend those that can’t defend themselves or something. I wish she would just go back to her garden.
The new cinematic is N’zothdeath tier, if not worse. It is honestly embarrassing. Do people like this unironically?
Well Sylvanas burned down Teldrassil and people are still mad about that, so that’s what happens when we get villains that actually do villainy
Seems kind of bad-faith. People disliked what Sylvanas did because her reasons were really stupid for burning down the tree, like phenomenally stupid. And well… it turns out “muh zovaal” was behind the whole thing anyway, which makes it 5 million times worse.
Do you pay a monthly sub to play the game ironically?
Tbh i wish they go darker with the story. Here we have a rated t game, but yet we continue to have sunday morning cartoon stories.
No you’re not allowed to have nuance to your villains, they all have to be as evil as the big bad german man himself or people might think the ‘villain’ has a point! It’s why they absolutely destroyed Sylvanas’ character, can’t have us actually needing to use an ounce of our brain in the writing, that’d be too ablist wouldn’t it?
Sarcasm aside, Blizzard can’t write for sht. This is something we’ve known since WoD, probably further back even. Their model is to just tack on flashy crap and hope it hides the previous misgivings long enough to get your sub money.
They never even explained where the primalist cult came from. Just Razsageth breaks free and boom she has this big cabal of zealots on her side that no one knew about.
Story wise I honestly couldn’t care about this expansion. I don’t even know all of the villains names. None of it seems like it matters or had any build up.
The story has never been good. Even when it’s been passable it has never been good.
Also are you saying you want more edge? Sounds like something an edgelord would ask for.
I don’t give Blizzard my money directly :]
Either way, I have a sub because I have anxiety issues and therefore cannot break my addiction so easily. The perk of that, though, is having a constant show to munch popcorn to.
It was never good, but it was never this terrible. I’d rather have a 5/10 story than a 1/10 story. However, I will not be cutting Blizzard ANY SLACK. They have the money to hire GOOD writers, but they NEVER DID/DO!
Bro, I just want a rated T game to feel rated T and not rated EC lmao.
So you’re saying you’re addicted to the game?
Well on the bright side you’re at the stage of addiction where you hate your addiction so that’s closer to being free of it I guess.
Hope you get some help, good luck
I’m so beyond curious of what are your examples of GOOD MMO writing, or writing of any kind of a universe of equal size and time spent devoted to creating it.
Everytime I see posts like this it just looks like the biggest train of no thought, just spitting out whatever popular sentimentality is without Actual reasoning.
Blizzard needs to hire George R.R Martin and Sam Raimi honestly
I kinda envy people who need more darkness and suffering in their daily lives just to feel something.
Wanna swap?

Sylvanas did nothing wrong.
Definitely not Martin. He made one amazing book that was good because it subverted the reader’s expectations, having the good guy die at the end. He then proceeded to milk it for all it’s worth, doing the same thing, with each book getting progressively worse.
I mean I don’t blame him. Lots of writer’s who finally make it destroy the quality of their stories by pumping out lower quality books after their success in order to keep the money flowing.
I am amazed people think that WoW has previously centered around dark writing.
It’s not that i think we need more darkness. Just that WoW is a rated T game. And most of it’s playerbase are adults. We can handle it. The Saturdays morning cartoon villain stories are old.
The Jailer wasn’t a dark enough villain for you?
