The WoW Cycle

I swear, these expansions are cyclical. Cataclysm: unpopular expansion, lot of cut content towards the end, cut their losses and put a lot of effort into Mists. WoD: unpopular expansion, lot of cut content towards the end, cut their losses and put a lot of effort into Legion. BfA: unpopular expansion, lot of cut content towards the end, cut their losses and put a lot of effort into Shadowlands.

feels like based on announced things Shadowlands will break the cycle. By being as shallow as BFA.

I love how all of these theories about cycles leave out TBC and WoTLK

Yeah, well I’d argue that they do follow the pattern. At the time, BC was not well-liked, and Wrath was incredibly popular. But a lot of people like to look back on BC with rose-colored glasses and it’s become trendy to hate on Wrath. If I mention them in the OP, the whole thread will be arguing about those two.

Wrath was complained about pretty hard on the forums when it was current.

Same with MoP, even worse.

Now they are both held as the better expansions.

The forum hates every expansion when it’s current content.

Simple solution. Play Shadowlands, then don’t play the xpac after that, but come back for the one after that. Are we having fun yet?

I’m thinking for the first time they might have a double crapper with cheese. Still gonna try shadowlands, but I think it’s gonna be turd with maybe a little more shine than BFA. Pretty much the only reason I want to play shadowlands is for the new roguelike dungeon, but that’s probably gonna be time gated because it’s something fun. We’ll see I guess, I don’t have high hopes for shadowlands though… it’s looking a little shady if you ask me.

Posts like these are disingenuous. While it’s true that the forums are always rife with complaints, it’s rare that there’s an agreement that content is stale, boring, flawed, or bad by the forums, in-game players, big name streamers, and video content creators, especially proceeding and then for the entire duration of the expansion, which has been the case since BFA’s beta.

Because they’re part of the ascent of the game?

There’s always agreement within community cliques. That’s nothing new.

Yea…

I can’t take anything you say seriously anymore, sorry.

Nice try at trying to justify cherry-picking.

If it doesn’t fit your hypothesis, make up reasons, amirite?!

Lol no. I prefer facts. Such as sub gain and sub loss. TBC and WoTLK were successes by any tangible measure. Your feelings are a different issue as they’re subjective (and also wrong)

Do you even remember what you’re arguing about?

It IS funny how MoP has gone from ‘the piece of trash expansion that RUINED wow and caused a huge drop off of subs because PANDAS ARE A JOKE RACE I PLAY THIS GAME FOR LORD OF THE RINGS REALISM I’M NO NERRRDDDD!!!’ to 'actually one of if not THE most popular expansions the game has ever had’ (definitely rated in the top three along with legion and wrath).

Yes, it’s the A/B thing. Your argument is wasn’t there an A/B for TBC and WoTLK as it doesn’t fit into the convenient Cata bad, Mop good pattern. I understand what you’re trying to get at.

I skipped it entirely due to pandas, and what i thought it was going to be like.

It was hard going from death, despair, and darkness like previous WoW and thinking we were going to the land of Kung Fu pandas and cartoon Asian land.

I’ll admit I was close minded, because it was a masterwork of art and content, and class playability,

And the Pandas…

Well, I love the furry Son of a guns now :sunglasses:
