The wow community before beta:
“Not interested in classic” “rose tinted goggles” “won’t happen” “I wouldn’t want to play that buggy, broken old game” “NEVER… GONNA… HAPPEN!”
The wow community after beta:
“OMG classic hype” “I havnt had this much fun playing wow in years” “Should I roll x or x?” “beta key please” “I never knew vanilla was so fun” “I cant wait 90 days!”
As someone who wanted this for over 10 years and was dragged across the coals anytime I brought up the idea of classic, I seriously hate you all.
I think we don’t see as many of these posts lately because they get buried under all the hype. Ever since release date was announced and the beta started, the forums have drastically picked up in activity and naysayers get nowhere near the attention they did a little while back.
The worst part about the hype is that it will bring in the toxic players, I hear whispers that world chat on P servers has become unbearable. People are ninja looting and trolling is non-stop… These people need to stay out of classic and stick to their toxic wasteland they call home (retail).
I mean they could just be acting like pricks just because their server is about to end just sayin. I honestly think most the toxic dweebs won’t make it past level 10
Honestly, I think it’s streamers who brought the hype - and the toxicity. it’s also why 1.12 patch is perfect for Blizzard to use. They might have “lucked” into this one by finding the data for it.
On the streams, things were retail like easy. Had the streamers spent 2 hours in one instance, have to do tedious things like cc, etc. I highly doubt the hype would be this high.
There were plenty of us who blasted private servers for being inaccurate and undertuned - including me. Then I see Classic as of 1.12 … and LOL. They were actually over-tuned.
It’s the only way to keep the ADHD generation of gamers playing. People aren’t running around as mages with agility anymore. The general population is much more educated about the basics of the game than they were 15 years ago. Of course the original is going to seem “easier”.
I was wondering what excuse retailers would come up with for classics success, this ones an original at least!
Sure… they’ll be coming back to bfa, keep telling yourself that.
If they take the core principles of Classic and restore them to the “modern” game, I would be all about going back to it. I’m not confident that will happen, but I would do it.
Call it me laughing at myself for calling pservers easy mode, when in reality 1.12 takes it one step further and makes it brain dead.
But in all seriousness, it all depends on when you started playing Vanilla. The last character I leveled was probably pre 1.6. I never ran post nerf scholo/strath etc. So for me, the 1.12 perspective just isn’t there.
I don’t think so, people are just idiots who think all their bright ideas are amazing and the game would be better for it.
100% of the time they are just morons tho, the original devs knew how to make the game good, I’ll take any “flaw” in vanilla over some idiots “fix” to a game that isn’t broken.
Which, to be blatantly honest, is a good thing as far as I’m concerned.
I have no problem with detractors. I have no issue with people who oppose something. I do not disagree with the right to opt out of, or decline, a certain experience.
Most of the naysayers, however, provide no meaningful value. They’re simply announcing the hate, dislike, or vitriol, they have for the game. At times it’s that simple, at times it’s combative in the way it declares the rest of us “wrong” or “foolish”.
Yes, on some level, you could argue that “hype” provides no meaningful benefit either. It simply serves to create an environment of positivity with no factual basis, in a similar but opposite fashion that naysaying does to create an environment of negativity with no factual basis.
However, a happy community is invariably healthier than a negative one. So, in my opinion, the naysayers getting drowned out to the point that they’re not really heard is a good thing.
