I’m curious if anyone has had a more absurd flight path experience than the one I just had while leveling my Alliance warlock.
Attempting to fly from Astranaar to Ratchet just in the next zone over, I was amazed to see the flight path would take me back to Auberdine, then past Ratchet to Theramore before actually delivering me at my destination. But this was nothing compared to the actual route this thing took.
After going in the exact opposite direction to start and reaching Auberdine, the gryphon heads south again but instead of going east as I expected, it veered into the Stonetalon Mountains. I looked over the Veiled Sea as it took me along the western coastline before dipping into the crags on its way to Nigel’s Point.
My journey continued down south midway into Desolace before turning towards Mulgore.
But was I heading in the direction of Theramore, the next point shown by the flight master, you ask? Of course not, you fool! I was heading straight for Ratchet, and for fleeting moment I believed that I would simply land there.
But alas, this would have cut my scenic journey far too short, and that would have been unacceptable. So, as if to spite me, my gryphon flies mere feet above the Ratchet flight master’s head… and goes straight on, over the water and down the coastline to Theramore.
Finally, some twenty minutes after my innocent, foolish attempt to fly one zone over to turn in my quest item, I land in Ratchet, grappling with the fact I could have run there on foot, turned in my quest, and gone to lunch in the time taken by that flight path…
All Kalimdor flight paths are pretty horrific for Alliance, and a lot of them are 10-15+ minutes long. I use an addon that shows me times for them so I know what to expect in advance.
I actually googled it after the FP because I was so mind-blown by it and saw this bit of info. Good to know for next time!
Also had another really weird thing happen on an FP earlier. I logged off immediately before it landed in Felwood, then when I logged back in it flew straight through the terrain, out of other side into the middle of Felwood, and back onto the FP’s track…
How is one supposed to know this “order?” What logic would dictate that I need to go to Azshara, a level 50+ zone with almost no quests, to fly between two NEIGHBORING low-level zones?
I got my succubus quest and was like… uhh how do I even get to the Barrens? lol
