Lets begin with game play:
My abilities have procs
My talents have procs
My trinkets have procs
My racials have proc
My azerite traits have proc
My essences have procs
My enchants have procs
Lets talk about gear drops:
Mythic+ gear is random
Mythic+ chest is random
Warfront box is random
World quest box is random
Timewalking box is random
4 Mythic dungeons box is random
BG gear is random
Arena gear is random
Arena chest is random
Come on guys look at this list… We DON’T like this Blizzard. This isn’t a MMO based off hearthstone with lots of rng!
I also don’t understand the gripe with drops being random. Drops have always been random. Is forging adding to it? Absolutely, but there is less overall “randomness” in WHAT drops in retail when compared to OP’s classic character who can clear MC and get paladin tier as horde. At 2 drops a boss.
I honestly don’t mind the RNG if I got everything I wanted in one go I wouldn’t need a sub and there for Bliz wouldn’t be getting my money they really need in order to develop new games.
People that think the OP is complaining about RNG are missing the point. There always has to be an element of luck. A good game incorporates luck into the gameplay. It doesn’t make luck the gameplay. Then, you might as well just buy some scratch off lotto tickets every month and see what you won. That way at least you have a chance at real rewards.
My bad I didn’t realize that they fixed it (it WAS a thing in Vanilla). You are however able to get spellpower mail/plate on the wrong faction still such as the Lightforge Dungeon set since it is not explicitly only available to Paladins.
There is no “smartlooting” outside of that though so a lot of pieces WILL get wasted.
There still is BiS lists though as seen by a lot of top logs in retail having incredibly similar gear set ups. Yes, a socket will POTENTIALLY change the slot in question, but a vast majority of your slots this tier are predetermined. All 3 azerite pieces, your weapon (a mythic diver’s folly is ALWAYS BiS for agi users), all the benthic slots, and your trinkets are not changing. That is over half your slots.
That is arguably a better gearing scheme than using the same frost/shadow damage shoulders for 3 raids that you bought off the AH.
Rolling the dice isn’t what makes MMORPGs fun. It’s an element - sure, but it’s not the most important thing.
The story. The camaraderie. And yes, the unknown random event is what makes for a memorable game session. It’s the possibility of what might happen that keeps people going back for more. It’s not just about divvying up the loot.
I’d say one of the main downfalls of WoW is that there wasn’t just a homogenization of the gameplay, but there was a dilution. Making choices matter less and less made the choices less impactful. When you build a game around the notion that there are no wrong choices, there aren’t any meaningfully good choices either.
WoW is for all intents and purposes a foregone conclusion at this point. You roll a character, easily level up, and spend a certain amount of time gaining power for seemingly no reason. Heck, the game does a lot of progression for the player. Come back next patch, and you’ll be more powerful with a pittance of effort. Wait a few weeks, and you’ll easily see the entire story without so much as making a single friend/acquaintance.
The thing is they didn’t design anything around it. Lol it’s literally been rng based the entire time.
Are people just making up reasons to be mad now?
You just went into a long rant that makes it seem that you have a problem with mmo design…which no offense is your problem.
Yeah they added Azerite armor - trust me it’s more than just rng that makes that gear system bad.
I just don’t get this thread - but frankly crying about stuff like this is probably why blizz abandoned it. I’d prolly pass on reading these types of threads too at this point.
