TL;DR: Supposedly Paladins, when all of their cooldowns are exhausted, bug out of WPvP. Is it cowardice or sheer inability? Who knows? Psychological warfare is the key; it’s the ability to play the person against you and not their class/spec to win, as Char Aznable had done vs. Amuro Ray. It’s a form of winning that is not reliant on bots, premades, and OP comps that are statistically fail-proof, and if a Marks can do it, anyone can.
After an uneventful night of urbane WPvP, a certain Malygosian paladin wanted to “1v1” me. I would have refused if the hunt was good, so I humored him. I turned off WM and proceeded to t̶h̶e̶ ̶T̶e̶x̶a̶s̶ ̶c̶o̶l̶o̶n̶y̶ GShire. I ended up getting flagged by aggroing a guard, but he rushed in. I popped Camo, and opened up. After one hot minute of kiting him, I was able to get enough distance to pop Camo again safely(if I had lost it, that would have been an L as I was at fifth-max). My goal was to camo-heal back up to full(which takes about 30 sec), and then reengage. He didn’t come back around until about 2 min later.
He trashtalked me for doing nothing but run, despite I had to wait a hot 60 seconds before I could even do anything serial. Having to wait after Divine Shield, Shield of Vengeance, and Blessing of Protection is quite harrowing, but this paladin knew he would not win. I learned a lot from this exchange. I’m surprised he didn’t stick around to Flash himself back to full and have Lay on Hands ready. He also would have been close to having SoV back too…
But I was more economical with my cooldowns. Also, I am not as reliant on CDs(maybe more proc reliant) as his class is. The Gundam is a powerful mobile suit indeed, but what is that to the speed and power of my Gelgoog?
And therein lies the ultimate secret: psychological warfare. I mind-screwed this Malygosian ret. The happy ending of this story is that if I can do this with the least-represented class/spec in PvP, imagine the possibilities of everyone else winning in WPvP without bots, without premades, and OP comps. This was as good as it gets for a purer PvP experience.
Should you step foot in my beloved Stormwind, I will show you the cleansing power of the Light. Once I have finished with you my Untamed Blade will forever be known as the goblin clever.
The REAL thing, too. A human player vs. a human player.
Edit: Also, nobody has answered my questions: is the paladin class useless without its CDs? What drives a paladin to bug out, even in a 1v1 in friendly territory, when his quarry has survived one whole minute?
The reason I want to know is because you can still cast Judgment. You still have Crusader’s Strike and Templar’s Verdict. There’s still things you can do. But if you think it’s not good enough to W, is it?
Only one of the best anime of all time, a classic everyone should be familiar with. The Gundam was nicknamed “the White Devil” because it’s white in color and its superior technology(which Paladins are holy warriors and superior to Hunters currently in PvP).
That’s the trick, isn’t it? I’m perfecting a strategy. All I can say is: it’s not wise for a Hunter to go all offense on a Paladin. Thankfully, we can put out a decent throughput of damage.
Well, if all your CDs are on(not off), you risk taking an L even in a 1v1. That’s why the Malygosian in question bugged out: he didn’t want to smoke that L. Most likely he would have had both SoV AND LoH by the time I would have healed to full.
It was a draw. He mounted and flew away, faster than I could chase.
My build is focused on stealth and not using pets, to get the best ST damage I can get.
I wouldn’t say that, in places that favor ranged a Paladin feels pretty bad. In a really big raid with choke points the Paladin feels immobile and at great risk if it tries to engage.
I see your talents, interesting choices, but wouldn’t streamline do better than hunter mark?
To me that Paladin sounds like a full Mongoloid who never uses los or anything other than use cds and win or retreat.
In the field, I have to watch out for stealthers. Also, as a little factoid: H-M sims better than Streamline in damage.
Pretty much. But he can’t be the only one like that. It’s the mindset that as long as he has a full CD load he can score an easy W. There’s probably lots of paladins who think they can press their I-win buttons and get the same result. But then their minds go blank when all of their I-win buttons are dark(not lit)?
I dueled a hunter last week that use trutle shell and than proceeded to call me a noob for using BOP. ( side note i feel you should play every duel if it where an arena match.)
Ethics and strategies wasn’t the topic, fellas. I asked: is the paladin class useless without its CDs? A C effort is a yes-or-no answer. A B effort is telling me why it’s yes or no, and an A effort would tell me, “How come Paladins are played by ‘high morale DC’ people?”
In other words, why is your morale DC so damned high to the point where if you don’t pass that roll, you bug out?
Edit: My morale DC is 5 from being seasoned in PvP, and the “The Hunt” feat gives me advantage on morale checks when engaging in open-world PvP. Most likely, I’m going to pass my morale check when the excrement gets tough.
