It was only unfortunate for people who erroneously believe frost mage should have a permanent pet. This is a blessing for everybody else.
It was an optional thing. You didn’t have to take the talent.
I’d love it if the devs would pick a damn theme, tree, etc for every spec and stop changing them every expansion. They could finally balance the game if they’d stop reinventing the wheel every two years. It should’ve been done 10 or more years ago, where they got to a point all they had to do was balance numbers on old classes, introduce a new one, and focus on balancing it with the rest. We could have so many more classes.
Blizzard devs are their own worst enemy.
I wouldn’t say that the voidwalker is a strong tank. It can barely hold aggro and dies very quickly.
I just logged on today to find my minion gone. I don’t read the patch notes, mainly due to storyline spoilers, so this was a devasting discovery. I’m furious. The changed UI was bad enough. The blatant disregard for in-game issues and appalling customer service was equally as bad. This is horrendous. They keep spouting about customization only to take away what is a key feature to many. I’ve played since MoP was a few months to a year from launching. My main is a Frost Mage. I’ve had my elemental, my buddy, with me that entire time. I feel like I’ve lost a beloved friend.
Having it tied into Icy Veins isn’t enough. I rarely use my higher-level spells because I’m still in older content. The reason I’m not further along? It’s due to Blizzard’s incessant need to shove us into newer expansions. I understand some players don’t use the elemental. That’s fine. Do as you will. That doesn’t mean the rest of us shouldn’t have the option to keep ours.
I noticed the stat boost in the Tree. I still picked my elemental. They are not worthless. They absolutely can affect gameplay. All of you saying otherwise clearly don’t use your elemental. On more than one occasion, he’s even saved my life. I’ve used him to help me with achievements, to pull aggro, to guard me when I’m AFK in the wild and to sub in for other players in instances. This loss is severe to me and I’d image to many others. I’m completely with OP. Bring them back. To all those arguing they didn’t start off as permanent pets, they have been for years. That matters. There are several of us who love them and this change is a slap in the face.
I’m not familiar with 4 elementals. I know of water ele and arcane familiar, what am I missing?
nothing.
they’re just inventing random “facts” to be a nuisance.
patch notes don’t really contain spoilers.
they’re pretty safe to read.
i feel like a lot of people simply didn’t understand how amazing they could be…
especially with the massive range which could be accomplished by sending the ele out to a distance, or using it as a tank in conjunction with mirrors.
it would have been a perma-pet the entire time you’ve played if you started just prior to MoP.
i agree with everything you say about the elemental, but have never had any issues with my interactions when i’ve needed to open a ticket about something.
most of the time when people complain about customer service, it’s because they expect special treatment by asking for things which simply aren’t done.
“PETS WERE USELESS IN TBC”
“WELL OKAY PETS EXISTED BUT IGNORE THAT TIME THEY WERE NOT USELESS CUZ IM TRYING TO PUSH A NARRATIVE AND HOW DARE YOU BRING FACTS INTO THIS DISCUSSION!!!”
A complete sentence.
#1, the burden of proof is on you, I made a simple statement, you took issue with it and have driven it into the ground.
#2 Your unawareness simply means you and I are approaching the topic from 2 different perspectives.
#3 I can, but I won’t, because no matter what I would say, you wouldn’t believe me. That is a second reason why you need to learn the facts from your own research. Prove me wrong. But you cannot, because you haven’t researched it.
Conclusion: I won’t change your mind, only you can do that. You won’t change my mind, so we are at an impasse.
Therefore, I’m dropping this thread but would hate to miss any genuine tidbits of truth about wow that you might share in the forums, and so I am only dropping the thread and not exercising the “ignore” button.
Hope to read some of your positive comments in the future.
The 4 elementals were Fire, Water, Earth, and Air and the mage could have any one of the four, active at any time and for as long as needed. That made for a very versatile toon that was a lot of fun to play.
Btw: Regarding “NoBully”, Be cautious with what he posts on this subject. It is from a lack of knowledge and lack of willingness to research the topic.

the burden of proof is on you
my proof… all versions of the game are currently available on live servers.
from classic, tbc, wrath, and cataclysm onwards.
in none of those versions, do mages have access to 4 elementals, nor have they ever.

The 4 elementals were Fire, Water, Earth, and Air and the mage could have any one of the four, active at any time and for as long as needed.
mages don’t have earth or air or even water magic.
they have frost, fire, and arcane.
Nothing bad would happen if you simply said “oops, i was mistaken”.
So sad, Good by

You sure you’re not thinking of PoE? Warcraft mage has never had access to Earth or Air spells, and fire elemental is an elemental shaman thing.

mages don’t have earth or air or even water magic.
Yeah, but the elemental is water elemental, for whatever dumb reason.
No, what was PoE?

The 4 elementals were Fire, Water, Earth, and Air
I’m convinced you are chat gpt given a wow account.
Being fed info from wow shamans and the last air bender and errored out on the whole “mage” part of the convo.
lol… dream on…
Stop hurting us Frost Mage’s argument to keep permanent Water Elementals.
Earth and Air Elementals for a class that is solely Fire, Arcane, and Water/Frost? What are you doing? This is clearly sabotage.
Shaman didn’t exist? So this was obviously prior to 2002, an absolute minimum of two years before WoW’s initial release, even before Warcraft III, as in only Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, and Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal existed as video games, and a mere 4 books (now 30 official) printed…
I want to say thank you for trying to advocate the argument for Frost Mages to have a constant Pet, but you’re hurting the cause more than anything, please stop.
Sorry, Kalliston, I never intended to hurt anyone and still don’t. I was only taking a stroll down memory lane when playing a mage was my high point of enjoying wow.
If I have accidently offended you, might I suggest you send a similar response to “Nobully” who turned the “dialogue” into a downward spiral that proved his toon name to be a figment of his imagination.
Also please recall that I was the one that ended the dialogue with Nobully, with no help from him. So once again, perhaps you would reconsider who has been hurting the cause.
Spot on! There’s a lot of sweaty remarks in this conversation and most of them totally miss the point. It was never about dps maximizing. I started playing WoW in Cata and my first mage was frost. It was fun to play and since mages wear a paper suit, the extra damage was helpful when you were running alone. And it was fun to have the ele to travel with.
I just found out about this happening due to not playing the class since BFA. I used to have at least a dozen alts all max level with professions all up to make whatever my alts needed.
Anyway, sidetracked there…Frost mages had something fire and arcane didn’t; a real companion that could help in a pinch. It felt extra special to have that pet. It was fun.
I didn’t play my frost mage at all in dragonflight which is I guess when this happened which is why I hadn’t heard about it until now because I decided to dust off my frost mage and couldn’t find my ele! R.I.P.
I 100% agree with you. I just found out now that they took away my ele. I haven’t played my frost mage since BFA. Now that I know my ele is gone, I don’t know if I will ever start again.
It feels like what happened with enhancement shamans when blizzard took away all elementals except for earth and let resto and elemental shamans have them all. I was devastated! I don’t know why blizzard does this to classes that have had these pets for so long.
But lets keep giving hunters more and more. Even locks lost one of their pets. Why?
It’s not even about the pets per say or playing a pet class. I don’t think people really understand unless they’ve played these classes and spec for years only to have their pets ripped away.
