The warmode bonus is a long-term disaster

What gets me about the warmode bonus that 8.1 brought in is how short-term this solution is and how damaging it will be in the long term.

So far from the perspective of Hordeside players the warmode bonus feels completely unfair, since instead of balancing warmode it just made it alliance dominant instead. It feels like the Alliance just got a 30% bonus while the Horde got nothing. This leads to Horde players quitting warmode in droves and the population swinging heavily.

From the Alliance perspective this is a nice change of pace from the Horde-dominated warmode of launch BfA with a nice bonus on the side. The question here is this: when the population numbers even out (as it seems like that’s blizzards goal with the warmode bonus not changing at all) and the bonus switches sides as the Horde become outnumbered, what happens to all the Alliance who just had their outnumbered bonus pulled right out from under them for no reason? They do exactly what the Horde players do and leave, after all, if the bonus switches sides, then this whole disaster just plays out in reverse.

All the bonus does in the long term is alienate one half of the playerbase right off the bat, then alienate the other half when thing even out. That is NOT good for Warmode or for the health of the game. Whenever the bonus switches sides, one faction or the other will be having a horrible time of it. There is no winning with this system. This is the Band-aid fix to end all band-aid fixes.

This. When Alliance complained and called it Hordemode - they were told by a rather large number of Horde (not all mind you, some realized there was a problem) to “gitgud” or just turn it off. Now however it appears the tables have turned…

Then it will flip back and we will be back were we started. The cycle of life can be cruel.

I can’t speak for every other player but I played in warmode for the pvp, not the bonus. I was sorely disappointed things went downhill so fast. In the end though this is part of the issue. This is a problem on Blizzard’s end, where instead of actually making early effort balance the mode before it got out of hand, they’re simply letting the population swing back and forth like crazy. It benefits no one on either side to have long periods where warmode is just completely unusable. Don’t make this a “Horde players VS Alliance players” thing when the only thing the playerbase stands to benefit from this system is a few months of bonuses then a few months of being locked out of world pvp.

Err… Wasn’t the war mode bonus supposed to adjust itself as the faction imbalance corrected? Swear I read something about that…

IE if the alliance population advantage became significant, then they’d lose some or all of the bonus, and it could be given to the horde side. Dynamically adjusted after X period of time, etc?

It feels like this whole system is set up to do exactly this: to get the playerbase angry at each other instead of the devs for building such a short-term “ducktape and spit” fix.

That is because both sides had the same bonus… why was it the horde player’s fault that the alliance players didn’t turn on warmode? As we can see these days, with the 30%, alliance players are plentiful… which argues the problem was entirely of the alliance players own making.

Its a rubbish system if you need to incentivize it

It just sounds like ultimately warmode is a failed experiment. I paid to transfer from a Horde dominated server (Kil’Jaeden) once Broken Shore content was unlocked. I literally couldn’t complete any of the timegated quests without 5+ Horde corpse camping me. I switched to an Alliance dominated server, because, why not. Sometimes I saw Horde, whether I engaged them in open pvp, made no difference because I never did it in packs. Always 1v1.

I’m not here to judge anyone that does, but in all honesty the reward is so trivial, why does anyone really care!

It’s crazy how that works out. lol

The bonus exists due to the Horde:

They seem to be the most likely to PVP, as well as the most aggressive in PVP. So Horde were complaining that there were no Alliance in Warmode (making it nice leveling up, but then boring later.)

So the Horde complaint was why we have a bonus, so there are more Alliance in Warmode.

not exactly, Alliance were crying that Horde had the overwhelming population, blaming racials and story and whatever else they could that horde just had far more people. Which was BS, Alliance just didnt want to fight in warmode, it was an Alliance problem, not a game problem… And now what we see when they were given the welfare gear and bonuses to turn it on, low and behold, its not a big population problem now is it?! talk about hypocrits… thats whats aggrevates me about Alliance now.

this isnt me complaining about how things are now, i could care less. i have WM on on all my characters, and lets be honest, the Alliance has apopulation advantage on like Tuesday and Wednesday, those days you can count on FP being camped by large groups of Alliance, and then they go away till next week. The second Alliance lose that quest for gear, you guys will have no one in WM again.

Anytime I activate WM for the WQs (I could care less about 30% and more about conquest), seems to be lots of horde standing around in raid ganking alliance.

Doesn’t look like it hurt things much…

I’m confused with how this extra bonus to WM works. The side with less participation in PVP is rewarded the 30% bonus for the week, right? If that’s correct, than what the OP is seeing is not what’s actually happening. Even with the extra incentives, Horde players must still outnumbering alliance in PVP. Is that correct?

We playing the blame game here? Alright, in the begining there was a lot of alliance players with warmode too, until horde death squads became a very problematic thing to the point where the horde got 10% free bonus and alliance got free corpse running.
So, i’ll blame the horde players that thought it was fun running around killing anything in sight. See? Two can play this game.

gee… how DARE they play WAR in a WARcraft game in a mode called WAR mode… jfc…

why didnt you guys do the same thing then? why did you cry to daddy Blizz about it? why did you cry faction imbalance that wasnt really there? You arent always a victim, stop playing one.

I feel like the people complaining about the other faction in this thread completely missed this point: when the bonus switches around, this whole tragedy plays back in reverse. No one wins in this game, one half of the playerbase is always going to end up screwed over by this change.

Hey as long as we still get 10% then I’ll keep warmode on. I grew up on PVP servers. I’ve only had 1 alt on pvp servers and I deleted the character after 5 days.
The game is called warcraft, if you don’t want to get ganked then play in sanctuary cities only.
