The Warden Class and the new Support Role!

Warden Class Concept:

Many older players who enjoyed Dark Age of Camelot will still remember this class: The Warden!

The Warden is a melee class that wears chain armor, uses one-handed weapons, and carries a shield. He possesses minor healing abilities, can deal damage with his weapon, stun enemies with his shield, and enhance the party with his Pulsing-Blade-Turn (PBT) spell. He also has both active and reactive healing procs, can interrupt enemies, and even taunt enemies for a short period.

Regarding magic, the Warden has a Pulsing-Blade-Turn ability that can block melee attacks at intervals of 10, 7, or 5 seconds, depending on his specialization. Additionally, he can buff the group with active and reactive healing procs, which are triggered occasionally when a character hits with a weapon or spell, or when they are struck by an enemy.

The Warden’s overall concept is that he supports the group without surpassing any DPS class in damage output, healing more than a dedicated healer, or tanking as well as a full tank. His purpose is to enhance the group’s effectiveness through his spells and abilities while maintaining a supportive role.

Specializations:

The Aegis Spec – Support Spec:
This specialization focuses on enhancing the Warden’s existing abilities, turning him into a strong support character. Talents in the class tree would further improve his healing, damage mitigation, and overall utility for the group.

The Battle Spec – Melee DPS with One-Handed Weapon and Shield:
This spec emphasizes melee DPS, but with a more defensive playstyle compared to other melee classes in World of Warcraft. The Warden in this spec could stun enemies with his shield, deal shield-based damage, and use other melee abilities. He would also have a group buff that increases melee damage for party members or a casting buff that boosts caster damage.

The Rejuvenation Spec – Healer:
The Rejuvenation spec would focus on healing with significantly stronger healing procs than the Aegis spec. This spec is geared toward ranged healing, offering a group-wide heal that focuses on the party member with the lowest HP. He would also have an instant heal on a long cooldown, sending waves of healing magic to restore health to the entire group or raid over time. The Warden in this spec could heal while moving, and would have both smaller and larger healing spells. He functions as a reactive healer without any damage-over-time (DoT) abilities.

These are basic descriptions of the Warden’s roles, as I’m not a developer, but I truly believe this concept could work well in World of Warcraft. The mix of supportive roles, along with melee and healing specs, could add depth and diversity to group dynamics!

Background:

The Warden class is deeply connected to nature, but in a way that distinguishes it from other classes. Similar to Druids, Wardens have a natural affinity with the world around them. However, their abilities are unique. They use their bond with nature to heal and protect allies or to deal damage and hinder enemies.

In World of Warcraft, the Warden could be introduced as a second Support class, finally bringing the Support Role into the game!

With the introduction of the Warden, dungeons could be reimagined as 6-player content:
1 Tank, 1 Healer, 1 Supporter, and 3 DPS.

What do you think of my new class idea?
Please be polite and no hate/flaming. :blush:

Support role was a mistake. Ideally it would work. But in reality it only shrinks the design space the devs have. Since now they have to ensure that every spec can synergize equally with the support specs or they will be left behind.

There is also the issue that specs will be designed with all the buffs in mind, meaning that without having a support stalking you, your spec is going to feel incomplete.

Warcraft has Wardens already.

Nelf Rogues are already Wardens.

you mean a paladin?

amen. best thing they could do for the game is to get rid of it.

Not those :slight_smile:

@Bodo

Nope.
Edit 1. post with a background, so people can understand that his is NO Paladin at all :wink:

@Livia

Not at all. Just Blizzard has to chance the way a Support Role is played!

while good with a 10 player mode support could not work with a 5 player dungeon due to buff upkeeps and such

Was this written by AI or run through google translate?

Because of that i wrote that - with a new Support Role- dungeons would be with 6 players from now on.

@Adelphie
I wrote the basic text, but bec. english is not my native language, i got help wtih a tool, yes.

WoW Wardens are Jailers, Bounty Hunters, and Executioners; I dont see them tanking or doing support. At best they would be trackers, exploiting weaknesses, and debilitating their enemies type of class.

Idk, maybe Wardens should stay women-only to keep Night Elves matriarchal.

Lots of reasons why this is a bad idea… just like the bard thread.

Probably simplest way to implement warden is to remove t-mog restrictions so that rogues can wear plate (visually only). As well as giving them access to warglaives.

Only thing really missing then is their ultimate avatar of vengeance.

Wow so hard vs new ideas ^^
Give other opinions some room to breath pal.

if it’s a great idea, it can breathe all day :slight_smile: but if it’s bad, it should probably be choked out right away

WOW already has wardens, and why would the game need yet another class?

And if you’re porting from Dark age of Camelot, that’s just lazy.

Its a good idea, you just don t like it friend ^^

@Fauxstrasza

Because more options= the better.
And maybe lazy, but a good class is a good class :wink:

I don’t see an issue with the class… sword and board dps, could be interesting.

Then there is this… changing the dynamic of groups, support would probably be even less played than the healer role. Probably should just stick to 5-man and the support can take a DPS role if you have a support.

Love the enthusiasm, but I hate the idea.
The aug/sup love is so niche (like the love for classic servers) that once you introduce a need for a non-damage role in X content, it will make it really hard to make it worth it. We already have issues with not enough tanks or healers.

Do you know which MMORPG has a real support class, an actual buffer? Lineage 2. And they were so required, yet so boring, that players would even have an extra account connected as a “pet” just to buff themselves and their party.

We’ve already moved from a standard healer to a melee healer, and while it’s neat that Blizzard is trying new ways to make us enjoy the game, sometimes some ideas just aren’t good enough and need to be rethought or scrapped
