The War Within

I’ll be completely honest, this is the first expansion in 15+ years I am not excited for. And I really want to be excited for this new installment. It feels like there is nothing for me to want to play it. What am I missing? Is anyone feeling the same way? What is everyone excited for in this upcoming expansion?

It is a nothingburger like DF.

Probably nothing that you’re missing. It may just not be all that interesting to you, which is totally okay! Plenty of other games out there if this one loses its appeal.

I play Palia and Old Republic, too. Sometimes, things here just aren’t that interesting.

When DF was announced, I was really excited for it. I don’t know what TWW is missing, but its not clicking.

I think that BFA and SL were the 2 back-to-back worst expansions in all of WoW.

Dragonflight earned back some confident (for me) that future expansions including TWW will be good. I have my skepticism about things, there are things I see that worry me, but I hold out hope that it’ll be better because DF was and is.

Oh that’s a shame. I’m feeling very much the opposite. This is the first in a while I’ve been properly excited for. Shadowlands had me uncertain about it because I was so not feeling the Sylvanas story stuff and the setting was a bit too out there for me. Dragonflight while looking like a breath of fresh air seemed cool, it was still coming off the back of an expansion I did not enjoy.

With all the details we’ve started seeing these past few days my excitement has only grown. I am eager to get into TWW. The first zone looks gorgeous. The earthen are looking way cooler than I ever expected. The story has more than enough hooks to have me keen to learn more. And I can’t wait to get that hallowfall armor.

But Warcraft is life, I want to love it! There has to be something I’m missing? Maybe some feature I didn’t hear of? Game will always be amazing.

For me, it’s because it sounds like a bunch of major patches and not an entire new expansion. It sounds like it will follow the same minimum effort recycled content formula plus recycling scenarios and calling them delves. And it’s also probably going to have an entire less tier of “content” per expansion as well based on what they’ve said.

I’ll still play it, but I’m really not expecting much.

I always look forward to playing a new expansion. I don’t need a special, particular feature to “hook” me but between the new talents, warbands, and delves, that’s enough to pique my interest enough to play it.

DH 3rd spec, maybe that what your missing? :yum:

Joking aside, we still in Alfa, I’m sure maybe some future reveal will click with you!
You can also try other games like Sendryn suggested… I personally recently came back from catching up to my other games and now I’m just grinding old transmog in SL. (Still deciding if I’m going to catch up to the SWTOR story or finish BG3)

But I feel ya, I feel EXACTLY like you about FF14 new dawntrail… its not clicking for me, it feels like playing a vacation story… not my thing. However I plan to jump on it if it brings something more interesting like that cool past patch stories about FF14 own version of the Void!

I’m sure as more is added and we enter Beta Test something will come up!

I will definitely still buy and play the expansion for the story, but I am unsure if I want to raid and do the M+ cycle again.

I’m just eager to see the story. :hourglass::robot:

Dagran jr and the Kobolds are still a surprise. :robot::+1:

I am not going to lie, the new allied race looked kinda iffy when I first saw them, but after seeing the datamined stuff, they looked pretty cool!

The Store Within is looking pretty ‘meh’ to me.

After Bungie showed off The Final Shape gameplay, along with that Prismatic subclass, I need Destiny 2 content injected into my veins lol.

I guess as we get closer to the expacs release date it might be time to stock back up on shot glasses, bingo boards, and some hard liquior. All the normal doom and gloom threads are starting flood the forums.

I want to preface this by saying I do believe there will be a good many things to enjoy in the 3 part expansion. But I completely understand a lack of enthusiasm. Here’s why I think it feels underwhelming so far:

  1. The name itself is dull and abstract. We already know there’s gonna be WAR in Warcraft. The War Within is goofy sounding to me. Goofier still is the abbreviation some are giving it that’s scarcely shorter than saying the entire thing. You “warts and all” people struggling to get the rest of us onboard with your nickname are partially responsible for a lackluster response to the whole shebang. Worldsoul should have been the name of the first expansion. It’s pretty, it describes what’s ahead, and it abbreviates to WS nicely. (Midnight and The Last Titan are also on the less than inspiring side of names, so it doesn’t get any better in the Trilogy ahead.)

  2. The Earffen. To me they make mechagnomes look exciting. They would have been fine as the fourth or fifth allied race of an expansion. As the premiere peeps, it’s a no from me, dorf. Will I roll one? But of course, mon shortie. I must have one of everybody. It’s still not something I look forward to. I still have the rather cuter Dark Iron girls and that one guy (the beard was awesome) that need leveling. Something less of a reskin and more of a new addition would have been far more enticing. Ogres, nerubians, heck, I’d rather be a hermit crab with a decorated shell for armor. I’ve always wanted the Ethereals for a race, with their gauze trappings. Or, more recently, the hovering pixie types from the Night Fae zone in Shadowlands. Something, anything, but a reskin of an existing race.

  3. Nothing that feels, um, game-changing, was announced, so far. Something we’ve wanted for years. Such as, but not limited to, player housing. New profs to support the housing. Interesting ways of acquiring items for our estates. Or a new class that would have us dreaming of more alts to roll. I’d even get on my tippytoes for a substantial increase in character slots.

I am interested in the transmog system getting some love with any character able to collect all types of armor. I’d be a lot more excited if the restrictions on equipping it as transmog was lifted entirely. The reasons for not letting us look the way we’d prefer are long outdated. We are not judging our pvp opponents by whether they are wearing a fishing pole and bunny ears any longer.

But more pets to battle and adopt, more mounts, more QoL systems for gathering alts meaningfully into one’s account with a means of getting items to them without using the clunky mail system with its built-in clock ticking down, all of those things will get me to dutifully roll my rocky dwarf and descend into the depths. Oh, and delves, those sound a wee bit sparkly!

For me it’s never been about being excited for a specific expansion, but rather the level cap increasing so more stuff becomes soloable in general. “I’ll come back next expansion to do this grind” is strong with this one.

If you ignore all the ‘features’, it is pretty much a typical expansion.

New World, new story, new NPCs, new questing, new dungeons, new raids and so on.

What normally makes you excited for a new expansion that is not here?

That’s what you are missing.

New World story. New zone and ‘little’ stories. Questing thru a new environment. Learning more about the villainess.

Oh, and single player dungeons (delves). I still think this a foolish move on Blizzard’s part in a MMO but if they are willing to do it, I, as a solo player, am willing to take advantage.

What I am not excited for:
Warbands (dreading it actually)
More Anduin and Thrall (although their dynamic in the trailer was appealing and if they keep up that same energy, I might actually enjoy them).
Stone dwarves (don’t care)
Hero Talents (don’t care)

I am excited to play it, though I am a bit frustrated. Blizz is making the same mistake they did in Shadowlands and keeping too much secret.

We have a big bad in Xal’atath but we don’t know her end game or motivations, or even if we will fight her. We are learning about the Earthen but nothing about the Arathi who appear to be human and elf hybrids and then there’s these Harronir…

I know it’s still early but I do sorta miss the simplicity of expacs like Wrath and Cata where there was just a BBEG that wanted to destroy the world and we had to stop them. No moral ambiguity or secrets or story twists for NPC character development. Just Arthas wanting to kill everyone to turn us all undead and we gotta kill him first as he throws waves of minions at us to slow us down.

I’m in the completely opposite boat.
After playing through this past year of content in Destiny 2, I’ve lost all interest in it and any faith I had in Bungie.

Prismatic seems neat but the community is just going to optimize the fun out of it. (Then Bungie will subsequently gut it with nerfs.)
