I know we don’t have the game yet, but the promotional materials started to worry me a bit. The Echoes of Azeroth trailer is literally a copy of Beyond the Veil. Except clips from previous trailers, Echoes shows us races that we will meet in this expansion, just like BtV shows Covenants. And at the very end we have smiling main antagonists Xal’atath/Jailer. We now know that the pre-patch is meant to reference old enemies and activate our nostalgia, just like the SL pre-patch did with the scourge.
I know some might called this paranoia, but ghosts of SL still haunts me.
I’m playing it no matter what I played ever expansion this far and I didn’t like them all. But I have beta for TWW so far I like it but I like dwarves and I’m the rare player that actually thinks the earthen are cool.
Just realized I used “but” a lot — I’m tired and hungry. lol
I don’t dislike Earthen, but I think if they were giving us a new playable race and it was going to be titan-forged, they had a lot of choices besides a third kind of dwarf.
Xal’atath has quite a bit more lore to her than Zovaal did. We at least know more about her motivations and what she did. I don’t care at all that she’s an elf just as long as they don’t suddenly change the story to make no sense.
I wouldn’t worry about this, Blizzards marketing team doesn’t know a single thing about the source material they’re marketing and hasn’t for half a decade now.
Nonsense, Zovaal was no puppet. He was trying to save us from Xa’latath.
But you know what would be amazing though? Kinda surprised Blizz never tried this.
Hear me out:
What if Xa’latath is really the good guy… and we’re just misunderstanding HER motives… and if we only knew what was coming, we would understand her motives and probably side with her. Tragically, it’s going to be too late though!!!
Ya, but if you’re allowed to work for Xal’atath, the plot can’t happen…
Let’s try this: you’ll get to click a button that says: “I love you Dark Goddess Dagger Lady” and then she’ll be like: “Do everything you can to undermine me and bring me down like everyone else… but it’ll be our little secret you’re on MY side.”
And so you do… and you bring her down, and even kill her in the end, loot her body, get some smexy ilvls… and then like next patch, you’ll get a cutscene that says: “You did what I asked to perfection. Thank you for your loyalty.” and you’ll be like: “You’re welcome!” And that’s it.
We know that she was around during the black empire, we know that she was instrumental in several of the wars including the whole dark iron dwarf fiasco.(This was detailed in the book in the priest order hall). She was stuck in a dagger for a long time, but was still causing chaos.
She helped the priest against the burning legion, we met her again in bfa where we got her a body and received the ‘gift’ of N’zoth. In dragonflight she made us choose between saving nozdormu or the dark heart (we are soft, so we chose the dragon)
We know she was messing with the timeway’s and even made a few appearances in Classic Season of Discovery. Where she empowered the hero with void weaponry.
We know that she considers herself the harbinger of the void, ad that the ethereals know of her.
We also know that she has betrayed every ally she has ever had.
Compared to what we knew of Zovaal that is quite a bit.
Yeah the promotional material for the prepatch was definitely the big problem with SL, it would have been a pretty good expansion without that. Certainly worth wringing your hands over.
