The War Within Alpha

One again popping my head back into this thread to say that both danuser and golden are gone, apparently.
wonder what the story will end up becoming because of it

I heard about Golden, but Danuser?!

I’m a little sad about Golden, she was nice and was honestly one of the Few batting for Blue on the story team. The timing of her exit was also terribly rancid, especially considering the personal loss and how close the two events happened together. That was Elongated Muskrat levels of insensitivity.

Danuser I’m a little more bitter, for several conflicting reasons, but at the same time, he got handed a bag of :poop: and :bomb: and was told to make money with it, all the while the Cosby Crew and HR were pulling their shenanigans and Lead Devs were screwing around playing CoD instead of doing their jobs and trying to force an ancient game like WoW as an E-Sport.

Definitely feels like we"Re feeling the Microsoft influence now, but it remains to be seen what their vision is… could be better in the long term, but change is scary at first, chaotic in the middle and hopefully worth it in the end.

Ahh man I’m bummed to hear about Christie Golden’s departure. Her books are excellent, and I understand she’s behind the BFA cinematics… which were a massive highlight of that expansion in my view. I hope she still writes for them, now and again, if nothing else.

Did she have anything to do with Shadowblands and Sir Nipsalot?

Wait… I knew about Danuser, but Golden is out too?

She is. She posted it a few days ago on Twitter.

I have mixed feelings on her departure but no doubt she loves this WoW universe. I say a lot about a lot, but I wouldn’t about her. I’m glad she was a part of this journey.

Also, she used to play on this server. Not sure if she still does?

Anyway, somewhere in Afghanistan is my dusty and dog-eared copy of “Arthas”. I hope it brings some random kid as much joy as it did me.

Well that makes sense why I wasn’t aware. Rakham no tweet (he does have plenty of X’s though… *rimshot *). The little birds would eat the worms inside his head. The worms are also now telling him to refer to himself in the third person.

Christie is someone I’m sad to see go, she wrote a lot of my favorite Warcraft stories. They weren’t all bangers but she definitely had more hits than misses. With the quality of her work I have no doubt she’s gonna land on her feet, but I hope we get to see a freelance story or two from her in this universe down the line.

Fully appreciate the personal tabard, but would appreciate it more if we got designs, textures, etc that weren’t 20 years old.

I’ve used it to finally get the Theramore tabard I missed out on due to missing the MoP prepatch :sob: I’ll take it

Wait, is that live now? I’ve been too busy tooling around in the Draenei heritage quest to pay attention to much else.

It is. I didn’t even realize it was live until I saw Chromie in Valdrakken with a quest marker. I didn’t even understand what the quest was but when I looked it up…

Just go into this knowing that when you get to the part about checking in on Dragon Isles NPC’s, you may have to complete their questlines to actually complete this quest. Apparently some people are very annoyed by this.

Not going to lie, hearing about the woeful lack of even horde racial representation and already beginning to turn luke warm to WW. Cant wait for Midnight to be a expansion set in Quel’thalas through near sole Alliance PoV

In total fairness, historically speaking whenever Horde have gotten representation in the narrative, it normally ends with us storming a capital city and killing another one of your leaders.

I think they think that the story showing Allerya walking around in Silvermoon was Horde representation. I do know Lillian Voss shows up at some point in the questlines. I think Jaina said something about contacting Thrall.

Yes yes, that is nice and all.

This makes it suddenly more acceptable… how?

Not to mention the bulk of that Horde focus is almost entirely on bland orcs and Stalesaken.

Can I just say my eyes rolled to the back of my head when Jania started in on her "Only by working together’ spiel. Like sure, I’m cool with defeating the evil power with love - long time critic of the Faction conflict. But I can’t help but keep being reminded that this is also the same woman who was forced to watch a city she helped found and lead…a city she allowed her father to die to save…be magically nuked.

Where is the Jania Warbringers promised? I never thought I would miss the Legion era memes about her being a Dreadlord for daring to have an opinion. But having her back to pre-Theramore Nuking Cooperation talking points feels super forced.

Never said it was acceptable. Just pointed out that in WoW, when a Horde character starts becoming important to the narrative, the Horde ends up down yet another character.

If War Within is going to explore the pre-Titan days of Azeroth, I have to expect the Dark Trolls to play a pretty significant role in the story. Hell, there’s a less than zero chance Zul shows up again.

Honestly BfA has left me exceptionally leery on blizzard letting trolls having anything positive lore wise.

It cemented the fact that if anything is added for trolls lore wise, it’s literally only added for the Alliance to sling fecal matter on it and ruin things without consequence. Every single damn time.

I’m still fully expecting that even if the Harronir are revealed to be a long lost group of Dark Trolls, Blizzard still finds some way to ruin it because someone decided Thrall needed more screen time and trolls aren’t allowed nice things.
