Currently have the wall on my shoulders (190ilv). I have 3200 soul ash and shadowghast boots I could put thunder lord on, is it that much better for mythic plus? I am enjoying the versatility that the wall adds and it is not so reliant on aoe. I’m pushing 8-9 right now and could upgrade the shoulders and save some ash or make thunder lord.
Thoughts?
I have stopped using thunderlords in my M+ runs. The Wall is just way better imo.
How does rage Gen compare between the two?
I like thunderlords. Trash is going to be the scary part for tanks, and the 20% DR on such a short CD is huge, not to mention the damage increase.

Depends on your play style and perspective.
Me personally, I run with the Wall. Get so much more rage consistently and since I run Heavy Repercussion, that is even more rage not to mention the little bit of synergy.
Nothing wrong with Thunderlords. More mobs, more uptime on Demo Shout, more rage from Booming Voice. Just note it is mob count reliant to ge maximum use out of it.
I don’t run Thunderlords due to the fact I use Dragon’s Roar for the snap aggro for one thing. I also just feel like I get more out of Wall with my play style and approach as prot.
It’s all subjective though in the end.

Run wall. It makes such a freakin difference. That little bit more rage equals more defensives. I don’t have to choose between dmg, IP, and shield no mo. They all go up!

Well, technically with Booming Voice, it very simply provides 40 rage on a shorter cooldown, plus +20% damage windows.
I found the cooldown on Shield Wall too long with The Wall even with the conduit and Anger Management to be used reliably on every pull.
I would have taken Thunderlord happily if they didn’t make it scale based on targets. If it was simply a flat 3 second reduction per clap it would be mine without question and I’d be happier because of it.
Shield Wall is an e-button until the conduits and requisite haste come into play. I don’t see 5 rage per cast being an all-or-nothing compared to more frequent 40 rage bursts. It might work out to ever so slightly more but is roughly comparable in trash packs.
Thanks for all the responses
I went with upgrading my wall legendary to 225 and I will have to stock up on soul ash to get thunder.
I’m almost timing a 10 so it’s been fine so far, I’d like to explore with thunder lord as demo shout is huge for us imo
I have been running thunderlord as it was the only memory I had, I use it to get demo shout off of CD faster so I can use it when i leap or charge into the next pull. The opening into a fresh pack is where you take most of your damage. I have the wall now but I need ash to make it.
Feels kind of (admittedly timely) Feast/Famine vs. Consistency for me.
For optimal performance over the course of a run—especially in dungeons with significant non-blockable damage—you’re probably going to want Thunderlord, but damn does permanent Shield Block via Into the Fray + Heavy Repercussions + The Wall feel nice and smooth…
Its the only way I can live in +9 environments
I’m assuming you meant shield wall, not shield block and yes shield wall can be as little as a 1.5 min or less CD depending on rage Gen and how often you are hitting shield slam (I tab target)
With my build of the wall, stalwart Gaurdian and anger management I often use shield wall twice in a boss encounter.
That’s the versatility it has provided
How is even a 1.5 minute CD going to make an 8-second duration permanent?
I meant what I said, Shield Block. Without Heavy Repercussions, you cannot keep it up permanently. Without Into the Fray, or high Haste by other means, and Devastator, you are likely to have some downtime on it just the same when getting poor luck on ShS refresh procs.
You are able to keep shield lock up 100% of the time with that setup? I’m curious if so I would love to try it
You don’t technically need even all that to manage it, but I found it was quite reliable with decent Haste and the aforementioned Into the Fray, especially with melee DPS in M+ runs to provide Haste during boss fights.
That still doesn’t mean it’s better than the alternatives via Thunderlord or even just sticking with Ravager, etc., mind you, but it was fun to play around with.
What kind of uptime on shield block are you able to maintain? Just curious
How does The Wall help with that?
More Rage generated per Shield Slam = more rage to spend on Revenge = fewer GCDs spent without a chance to refresh Shield Slam = more Shield Slams generated = more Shield Block duration bumps via Heavy Repercussions.
Note: this is working under the assumption that you’re taking the meta talent of the first row, Devastator.
What? I’m living in +13s just fine and I don’t even kite lol. And I barely tank.
User error. Everyone has it and prot can be unforgiving without a LoH so to speak
