A number of sites and streamers have commented on recently divulged information regarding the future of WoW.
Of particular interest were the comments about Elune. The specific comment was that Elune herself has made a bargain with the goddess of death.
From here the pieces fall together. At first a quick shout out to Pyromancer and his video’s which first drew attention to the points that will be discussed.
It begins with the Star Auger Etraeus within the nightfold, where during the fight he reveals a celestial body being corrupted, with the final form being consumed by shadowy tendrils.
that celestial body being corrupted, was as Pyromancer pointed out, heavily resembled Elune. If it was Elune, then the vision granted from Etraeus reveals that Elune has been infected by an old god, or rather as Xal’atath comments, “the upstart goddess.” Xal atath wasn’t referring to Elune, she was referring to the old goddess, of death, or GoD.
Elune, for who knows how long, has been wrestling with GoD, and purge herself of the infection. We know old gods dig deep and GoD has likely burrowed to Elune’s core, resulting in the moon goddess having dual natures. The warm, loving light, and the want for death and revenge, as exemplified in Tyrande.
This may answer whom it is that Bownsamdi serves, and why he is so eager to collect his share of souls. Every soul gathered, is a Titan creation trapped forever in the shadowlands. Almost in the same way that all demon souls are sent to the twisting nether.
As to the identity of the whispers to Voljin, the mystery still remains.
Interestingly, undeath was a scheme engineered by the nathrezim on behalf of Sargeras and the burning Legion, with the ultimate end goal of destroying Azeroth, but more importantly the old gods.
Sylvanus, as a paragon of undeath is the perfect champion to fight the old gods. Perhaps that would explain her motivations in Darkshore. Perhaps she was purposefully attempting lure out the ‘dark side’ of Elune.
We know that Elune granted a mercy to those caught in the flames, similar fate shared by Crusdaer Bridenbard, when he was spared the fate of undeath by the naaru. And perhaps Sylvanus too, was aware of the greater powers at play, and that her being warchief is no mistake, nor is it the work of a malevolent force.
