I agree that Rexxar shouldn’t be a leader of Ogres again and would much rather have an Ogre be leader of any Horde Ogre clans, or leaders in the case of multiple playable Ogre Horde clans.
I mention Rexxar as a reason why the MU Stonemaul Clan would want to be part of the Horde. He did save their clan, even if Mok’morokk became corrupted which isn’t entirely Rexxar’s fault, so it does work as a check of sorts to make sure the MU Stonemaul Clan stays loyal to the Horde. Though that in of itself shouldn’t be problem, since several of the MU Stonemaul Clan Ogres were shouting “FOR DA HORDE!” when fighting Cho’gall in Feralas at the end of one of the questlines there.
I don’t see Rexxar dying and he certainly doesn’t need to in order to free the MU Stonemaul Clan. There is no reason that MU Stonemaul Clan can’t just get their own leader while Rexxar is just an honorary member of the clan.
Rexxar should be involved in any MU Stonemaul Clan storylines, but he doesn’t need to lead them again. Let Ogres lead Ogre clans, I say!
In thinking about what classes the Taunka would have, my mind ended up drifting to the other races I would like playable and what classes they could have. Thus I made the following breakdown for Ogres.
Evergreen: Hunter, Mage, Priest, Rouge, Warrior, and Warlock.
Lore: Shaman.
Potential classes: Monk (open to all but the Dracthyr), Death Knight (They could easily be put into the Allied Race Death Knight intro as Bolvar was robbing the graveyards of Horde and Alliance champions for this new generation)
Not Likely: Demon Hunter, Druid, Evoker, Paladin.
They definitely have to be Shamans and probably Warlocks due to Gul’dan. Warrior because if they weren’t two-headed magic sensitive they were fighters. Not saying all Ogres that could use magic were two-headed but I think they were smarter and so were able to handle magic due to the two heads so Mage would also be a given.
Now Death Knights should be a thing and I think the TCG has them but can’t remember. I don’t see any reason why when Arthas was the Lich King that he didn’t raise any Ogres since he raised every other race. I won’t accept that it is because Ogres weren’t playable at the time because they should’ve been. Can’t penalize them for Blizz’s incompetence.
I can see Ogres being Hunters since every race can use ranged weapons to some extent. Wish survival was a two single-handed weapon class like Rexxar because I could definitely see an Ogre doing that but not all the flying around the new survival does because that would be hilarious to see an Ogre doing that.
I still find it hard to take Tauren rogues seriously and I feel that would be the case with Ogres but since Tauren can be them I don’t see why Ogres can’t, I just won’t be making one.
There is a Lightforged Nathrezim so I don’t see any reason why Ogres couldn’t be Priest but I wouldn’t be making one of those either. Which could also be a reason to make them Paladins when/if Blizz finally makes Paladins for all races.
I can actually see Ogres being Druids. I picture something similar to the Diablo 4 Druid. Big and tribal-like.
I can see a Pandaren master training an Ogre, since they have patience, even though I picture it being frustrating and long.
Obviously Demon Hunter and Evoker aren’t going to happen.
It looks like the new Classic Anniversary progression servers have launched for those interested.
I already looked at the MU Stonemaul Clan back when Classic first launched. Not a whole lot has changed in Dustwallow Marsh, save for a NPC that got removed that had a quest of some kind. I think it was to give him food or something. I’ll have to hunt for that post I did on that later.
I’m already busy enough with Retail WoW and my 60+ characters, so I don’t think I’ll play it since I think I covered everything MU Stonemaul Clan related. But hopefully those who are playing it will have a good time with it.
Horde Ogres may not have been made playable in Vanilla, but hopefully we’ll still see Horde Ogres become playable someday!
Yea but ogres are 100% loyal to the original Horde. Goblins are not. They are just well paid mercenaries. They would go back to serving only themselves if it worked better for them. Ogres are cool. First saw them in WC1 as unplayable. And cool now that we all can play WC1 the way that it was.
I just saw on WoWhead that there are Naga and Vrykul weapons. Would love to get some Ogre weapons since I’ve always liked the weapons that looked like tree branches and rocks on sticks. I think I got a tree maul from Exiles Reach.
I’m one of the type of players that likes to create a bunch of characters, give them backstories and personalities, and level them and such. It’s a lot of fun to do that as I watch YouTube or listen to podcasts.
Still hoping to add Ogres and Saurok as Horde champions to my alt army someday.
I’ve actually been watching a Let’s Play video of the classic versions of Warcraft 1 and 2. Although I never played them, I have some nostalgia since I did grow up on DOS and Windows PC gaming. Because of that, the games look fun and the new Battle Chest is something I want to get at some point.
If I understand correctly, Ogre units are only in Warcraft 2, which will be exciting to see when I get to watching a Let’s Play of it.
I know the Old Horde was a bit stinky with their goals and such, but it would be a great throwback to see Ogres and Forest Trolls playable to make the Horde feel more complete. Hopefully, we’ll see that happen someday.
I’m really tempted to pick up the Battle Chest. I still have a Diablo Battle Chest with physical copies. Still have the physical books from my WoW Battle Chest and the physical WotLK book.
Ogre units in WC2 used to make a sound similar to Bloodlust in WoW. I was looking for both version for you to hear and found this vid that I found on Bloodlust interesting.

I’m always for Ogres and Forest Trolls becoming playable for the Horde. I am still upset we got Zandalari Trolls before Forest Trolls. Been wondering who’s in charge of these races because they are failing big time. Don’t get me started on ALL the races that came before Ogres.
I want them to give hunters the ability to throw one-handed weapons or more specifically axes like the trolls in the WC RTS games. Still not sure why that is not a thing.
I’d rather Blizzard just brought back thrown weapons and allowed them to operate like guns, bows and xbows of course, but that could be a way for them to make Forest Trolls neat.
