The Unofficial Stonemaul Ogre Playable Race Discussion Megathread! (Part 1)

Looks like an Ogre is taking his son to see Greatfather Winter! And of all things to ask for, they’re asking for the Horde Ogre clans to get full membership status. Hopefully, they’ve been good Ogres this year for that to be considered!

Of course, I know what all is at the top of my Winter Veil wishlist! :lizard: :japanese_ogre: :bat: :tiger2: :polar_bear:

Nothing like a little family fun time for Ogres during Winter Veil!

Hopefully Ogres will be able to celebrate Winter Veil with the Horde someday!

I tried to figure out how to remove the green text when pulling the sleigh, but I couldn’t figure it out. Ah well, it’s still a great screenshot to take.

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays! :christmas_tree::japanese_ogre:

As you know, the sleigh ride across Orgrimmar and Ironforge was removed. Instead, it acts as a brief taxi service to the Winter Veil world boss. Very disappointing, since taking screenshots riding it was a yearly tradition I looked forward to.

However, I did look through my toy box and discovered that I had a particular toy of interest:

The result being:

Santa Ogre lives!

Now, unlike the sleigh ride, this mount moves really fast. And since I’m controlling it, it’s a bit hard to take good screenshots as I’m flying. And unfortunately, a lot of models I used in previous sleigh ride sessions don’t appear when riding a mount, so I can only do this for a couple of megathreads.

So despite running into several walls and likely causing some property damage in Orgrimmar, I managed to take a few screen shots:

Santa Ogre rides around Orgrimmar to spread Winter Veil cheer! Hopefully, you all are having a great Winter Veil eve, for tomorrow is the big day!

Whatever plans y’all have, please have a fun, happy, and safe holiday! :christmas_tree::japanese_ogre:

Wow, this thread is still going? Amazing!

I still want ogres too, even after all these years. It’s a bit unlikely, I’m kinda hoping Midnight could be the expansion to bring back some Warcraft 2 flavor to franchise.

He gives gifts to good girls and boys, and smashes the naughty ones in the face.

I have it on good authority that Santa Ogre is not popular with parents of naughty children.

Yep, our desire is unending.

The overwhelming passion I see for the playerbase that wants to see playable gnolls, naga, ethereals, ogres, nerubians, and more seems to legitimize the need for a “Mercenary/Pirate” expansion.

A collectivized starting zone for any new neutral/allied race to begin at with minimal needs to improvise whole new leveling areas.

When it comes to new playable races, in all honesty, I really don’t like the idea of a mercenary system. It seems like something that would have a lot of what you would expect from a playable race cut out to save on resources, which would be extremely disappointing in the long run.

When we get new playable races in WoW, I like seeing the lore and culture of said races. I also like seeing the build up to them joining their respective faction or factions, becoming proud members of said faction or factions, a capital city or at least a racial hub, and being involved in various storylines while having a presence in game.

With a mercenaries system, all that gets cut out and just feels extremely empty.

I don’t really want to be a unique individual that joins a faction of their own accord while the rest of their tribe, clan, or what-have-you doesn’t officially join and don’t have any future storylines or in-game presence. And just having my character’s motivation of being allegedly shoved sacks of money and immediately being told I’m a champion savior of the world (of Warcraft!) also doesn’t really fit well.

When a new playable race gets added, I want the love and care that would go into a playable race to go into future playable races. It makes the world (of Warcraft!) feel much better and also with the factions growing in various ways.

And as I said, a mercenaries system with different NPC races would be heavily stripped down compared to playable races and wouldn’t be satisfactory at all. I want my characters to feel like actual characters and not just feeling like they’re there without much fanfare at all.

I’m sure I could go on more, but ultimately, I’m really not fond of the idea of a mercenary feature and how lackluster and disappointing it would realistically be.

Indeed! Next October, we’ll be hitting our 5th anniversary! And for the Saurok megathread, we’ll hit out 6th anniversary in June! We’re still going strong with no plans of stopping anytime soon! When you really want something, you roll up your sleeves and let the dedication and passion flow!

Even through the darkest days, this fire burns. Always! :fire:

I’m complete and utter agreement with this.

A part of the fun is knowing that the new race has been established in lore or in the case of the Dracthyr seeing them reacting to a world that had seemingly moved on from them.

To be honest the lack of having story with the Earthen joining the factions, really disappointed me.

This week the Naga are invading the Siren Isle and one of the quests we get reveals that the Arathi Empire has fought Naga before in imperial lands.

Now as Ogres are known shipwrights, I honestly wonder if when we get to the lands of the Arathi Empire, that we’ll have some Ogres present as well.

Hope everyone had a good Winter Veil! :christmas_tree: :japanese_ogre:

So I think pretty soon, Siren Isle is going to switch to the pirate invasion phase. While I don’t know a lot of mobs there, I found out that one of the rares will be this Ogre chef:

Apparently he is part of the Bilge Rats crew, which is one of the pirate crews you come across in BfA:

We’ll see if there are any other Ogre mobs when the pirate invasion phase goes live. I’m sure they’d just be enemy Ogres, unfortunately, but still worth noting as part of our Ogre watch. :pirate_flag:

Having tattoos on this Ogre must mean we must get tattoo options for Ogres when we will get them as playable race too. :dracthyr_yay_animated:

I hope so. Tattoos should be for all races honestly. lol

I can see that, though I wonder if we would have similar tattoo options or if the tattoo designs on this pirate will be an NPC only thing.

At the very least, I imagine the tattoo most Ogre NPC’s have being an option. Which begs the question of what kind of tattoos Ogres would have in general. Maybe clan specific ones, especially if playable Horde Ogres go the multiple clan route.

I’m guessing there could be full body tattoos as well, though because I’m not creative in that regard, I have no suggestions to give for that. I’m guessing that Ogre NPC above could have their tattoos as an option also.

Maybe we could have Ogres with “mom” tattoos as an option. Even toughest and gruffest Ogre could love and respect their mother that much. Just a fun thought.

So I was looking over the Dressing Room feature over on wowhead and I noticed that while non playable races like Forest Trolls, Tuskarr, and Haranir are available to make, others like Ogres are not. Which is a shame as it would have been nice see the Ogre animations and what not.
