The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

I specifically remember healers and hexxers, they turn up in a boss fight in one on the dungeons. But I donā€™t remember any arcane casters or the like.

Yes. There are casters. Infact the ones in BFA Bilgerats pirates, all of the saurok are casters.

Lizardfolk are one of the best races in Pathfinder to RP. So of course this should be a thing in WoW as well!

It would be great to see them get updated in parallel to Worgen.

I found some of the Saurok mobs within the Bilge Rats using a list I found on Wowpedia.

Wowpedia Bilge Rat List

Bilge Rat Brinescale

Abilities: Frost Blast, Water Bolt

Bilge Rat Seaspeaker

Abilities: Salt Blast, Watery Dome

Bilge Rat Tempest

Abilities: Choking Water, Revitalizing Mist, Water Spray

Brinescale Wavecaller (List)

This mob has four listings on Wowhead, each with different abilities, with one having no abilities:

(Healing wave, Waterbolt), (Frost Nova), (Bubble Barrier)

There are other Saurok mobs within the Bilge Rats, but they appear to be melee classes, based on their abilities. Oddly enough, the Bilge Rat Brinescale is listed on Wowpedia as a Rogue when it clearly has a staff and casts, so unless Saurok have discovered how to backstab with a staff, I assume it is just an error.

The majority of the spells these Saurok cast seem to be water based, with a couple being frost based. It leads me to believe they might be of the shaman class because of it. Despite that, at least one of them knows the frost nova skill, which is indeed a mage skill. Frost blast, while not the exact name as a mageā€™s spell, appears to act similar to one of their skills where there is a cone of frost that affects mobs in front of the mage.

I suspect these mobs were intended to be more shaman related, and the ice skills were added just to give them some utility/annoyance to players who fight them. Iā€™ll need to do some more research to see if there are other Saurok that use mage skills, but as it is right now, it seems they are capable of learning some mage spells, but they donā€™t really strike me of going beyond and learning several spells and mastering one of the schools of magic.

Now, let me be clear in that I am not opposed to Saurok Mages at all. Iā€™m just looking in-game to see if there is any evidence of them being capable of being mages. Iā€™m sure someone could make a case for playable Saurok having the mage class, especially if we go with the idea of playable Saurok being smarter and having evolved compared to the Saurok we know currently. The Saurok, as we know them currently, donā€™t strike me as being magically inclined, but that is just my opinion.

That said, more Saurok research will need to be done. If anyone knows of any specific areas, dungeons, or raids where Saurok appear, please feel free to list them on here. With what we know right now, Iā€™m assuming most Saurok casters are intended to be of the shaman class or possibly priests, but if we find something that supports other caster classes, we could have arguments for mages and such.

Nice research work!

So I posted this in a few megathreads, but Iā€™ll go ahead and post it here also. Rise of Azshara is coming June 25th:

Obviously, I donā€™t expect anything Saurok related to be found in this patch, let alone anything Saurok related that would hint them them becoming an allied race.

If Saurok were to become playable, as I mentioned before, it would likely be in a future expansion. I feel like they would have more potential as a playable Horde race if the setting was different and there was time to flesh out their storyline that leads to a tribe of them being playable. As it is right now, BfA only has random Saurok in different pirate groups at best. Weā€™re near the end of BfA as well, so weā€™ll see what the next expansion will be like. Whether the trend of new races every other expansion will continue or not, weā€™ll have to wait and see. It may be awhile before we see new races of any kind, sadly, but at least it would give us time to post ideas and discuss them.

If there happens to be anything Saurok related in the next patch, Iā€™ll be sure to post any findings here, but again, Iā€™m not expecting to find any.

Man, next week is going to be busy with Rise of Azshara and Super Mario Maker 2 coming out a few days afterwardsā€¦and me still busy with my summer classā€¦ x- x

We saw the pirates in Tiragarde, so itā€™s possible some of them might be in the Unshackled faction.

The Unshackled are aquatic races that were slaves to the naga and then broke free. To my knowledge, there are no Saurok or any sailors/pirates within there, and even if there were, it would just be a few just placed there and wouldnā€™t be a majority. Even then, Gilblins are the most likely of the races in the faction to be an allied race and tied to The Unshackled rep, which makes the most sense in my opinion.

Itā€™s possible we could see some Saurok that were part of a pirate group got stuck in Nazjatar, among other races that were pirates, but in that case, they likely would just be jobber mooks put there to accomplish a quest or even a WQ objective, and it wouldnā€™t be much more than that or lead to anything.

Now, if a future expansion comes and there is a Saurok civilization of some sort that is part of the expansion, that would garner more interest. This is assuming they wouldnā€™t be placed there just to be an antagonistic NPC group, which would be a bit disappointing.

When I next have time, Iā€™ll likely type up my opinions on how Iā€™d like to see playable Saurok introduced into the Horde with more detail. There are a few things in my Saurok research I want to type up as well, but between quizes, exams, and this team project/paper for my Summer class, time is going to be very limited. x- x

That said, if anyone has ideas for what they want to see for playable Saurok, please feel free to share them. ^^

How do you put my helmet or yours onto a sethrak?

I honestly am not sure if you meant Saurok or not, but Iā€™ll try to answer both just in case. ^^;

If Sethrak were to become playable, I imagine a lot of the helms would need a bit of a redesign to put on their heads. My guess is that a helm would either go over the entirety of the head and hood, just the head part, or be wrapped around the head and hood part for some helms like some cloth helms. Iā€™m sure those in the Sethrak megathread have some neat ideas for helm design. ^^

As for Saurok, there shouldnā€™t be too much of an issue. Any horns or spikes would likely just disappear under the helm, or possibly stick out of some of the helms if it doesnā€™t look too weird or out of place. It would really depend on what playable Saurok would have in terms of creation features.

Itā€™s a bit unfortunate that we donā€™t have any playable reptilian races yet. I love Warhammerā€™s Lizardmen and itā€™d be fun to play as a humanoid dinosaur.

Good lord please. If they add Saurok, Sethrak and Saberon I would be the happiest little bean. More unique races!

Yā€™all have my support.

Today, I am going to type up some about Kros, the devilsaur god/wild god/loa thingus that the Skumblade Tribe worship.

So as we all know, the Mogu created the Saurok using some dark magic, but some Saurok thought that was a bit too boring and depressing, so the Skumblade Tribe in particular started worshiping this devilsaur in the sky named ā€œKrosā€ while stating they evolved from Kros. As I mentioned before, other Saurok take issue with this, not wanting to delude themselves into what their past is.

So what is it about Kros that make the Skumblade Tribe worship him? My guess would be strength, a big theme in many of the Saurok tribes, as well as an idea of a hunt, seeing as Saurok really love eating meat (a feature I would hope would be added to playable Saurok). Itā€™s no wonder some would want to worship Kros, seeing as the alternative is to see themselves as tools created to have served an evil empire.

The interesthing thing about Kros is that he actually exists, and you can fight an echo of him on the Isle of Thunder:

There is also a devilsaur on the Isle of Thunder named ā€œKroshikā€ who some believe is an offspring of Kros:

Despite that belief, the Saurok do end up sacrificing Kroshik and have a feast of his meat. I suspect their belief is that the flesh is a gift from Kros, and it would give them power from eating it.

As far as I can tell, worship of Kros seems to be specific to the Skumblade Tribe. While there are many different tribes of Saurokā€¦theres not much in the way of info on them, let alone who those tribes worship, if anyone at all. As I stated before, some donā€™t want to delude themselves on where they came from, so I can imagine some Saurok tribes having fights with the Skumblade Tribe who could act like zealots towards them.

So assuming that a tribe of Saurok become playable, should Kros play a part in it? I honestly donā€™t think so, seeing as Kros fits motiff of the Skumblade Tribe in terms of a pecking order and the devouring of those not a Saurok.

Playable Saurok should know how they were created, and likely strive to be more than just tools to be used. Now, they could worship another god/wild god/loa that fits their theme and make them a bit less ferociously savage among themselves and towards other races. If Saurok have evolved to the point of a civilization, I can see worship of a being like Kros being part of their society, but not Kros himself.

To be clear, this wouldnā€™t mean that playable Saurok would be paragons of all that is good. Iā€™ll go more into detail when I type up what I would like to see in terms of playable Saurok another time, but they should have evolved enough to work with other races and have a civilization of some sort but still have some sort of tribal savagery theme.

And if any ideas comes out of this particular post, at the very least, eating lots and lots of meat should be a part of playable Saurokā€™s society. Should a party go on in Orgimmar, Iā€™d want to see the playable Saurok faction to bring giant hunks of cooked meat of different shapes and from different beasts. Iā€™m also thinking of their own hunting holiday of gathering meat and having a great feast in honor of whatever they would worship. Lots of potential here, in my opinion, but I could also just be hungry.

More Saurok research to continue in the near future. Right now, I got an exam to study for. Maybe Iā€™ll find some meat to munch on for lunch to help me study. ā† <

But they will eat all the gnomes and we won;t have any left for the punting olympics :sob:

Oh donā€™t worry about the Gnomes. Any meat lover knows they canā€™t over-hunt for meat, lest they cause extinction. :v

So Iā€™ve been thinking a lot more on the idea of meat being a big deal in Saurok society and wanted to talk a bit more in detail on my thoughts.

As I said before, should we get playable Saurok, eating meat is something that should be part of their society. Not only do they find meat tasty, but it should be a belief that eating the flesh of another gives one strength and power. Almost all of their meals should have meat as an ingredient, and it should be a regular sight to see spits and BBQ contraptions that were created around where they live.

While they do cook meat, Saurok shouldnā€™t have a problem eating raw meat, either just as a craving or if a situation wouldnā€™t allow the cooking of meat. In battles against the Alliance, they would consider a victory to be gaining the strength of their enemies by eating their flesh, which helps the Horde in general conserve rations. Saurok would likely not eat Horde members, out of respect for how their allies would treat their dead.

Speaking of which, they likely would collect the bones of whatever they eat. This could be to make bone meal, used in dark magic experiments, and even be used to craft tools, weapons, or even armor. If Necromancers ever become a class, I could see them being that class to use the skeletons as guards and for labor.

Since cooking would be a huge part of their society, I could see Horde Saurok having a friendly cooking rivalry with Ogres, who would also eat and cook a lot of meat, and Pandaren, who like to cook in general. Being part of the Horde also means they get to try out new meat dishes, find new spices and sauces, and also find new drinks to figure out what goes well to different meals.

There could even be a cooking/hunting micro-holiday they could have as well. A ā€œGreat Huntā€ along with a ā€œGreat Feastā€ that could reward different cooking recipes and other fun goodies. Itā€™ll be something Iā€™ll think about more in the future.

The cooking and consumption of meat should be a science to Saurok, and would be a fun and unique theme of their race. Hopefully in the future, the Horde will be sharing some meat loverā€™s pizza with them in the future, should Saurok ever get to be playable.
