A few high elves have chosen to join the Alliance in recent years, but the Alliance as a whole remains somewhat suspicious of high elves to this day. The high elves’ secession from the Alliance during the Second War left bitter memories. Furthermore, the night elves, who became part of the Alliance during the Third War, saw it as their duty to warn their new allies against the high elves. The Highborne’s part in bringing about the War of the Ancients figured heavily in the night elves’ retelling of high elf history.
oh yes what great core allies. the high elves became blood elves and the night elves replaced them as part of the alliance faction identity in vanilla wow. it doesnt make sense to give alliance blood/high elves when there are so few and they are distrusted by most
Okay, so besides the point that I’m obviously wearing a SC tabard and a Cowl so I don’t have to look like a VE…
This has to be the silliest “example” someone has ever given for a while.
Is Blizzard supposed to be our dad? Is that why they are giving us money to buy shirts?
And are you really saying that since we want High Elves we can’t even LIKE Void Elves.
WTF Man, WTF seriously you have jumped the shark. Like you can try make logical arguments most of the time, but then you fall into this nonsense and it’s pretty obvious your reasons for not wanting playable HE’s are entirely emotional…
The moral of the story is it looks stupid to pay for something you didn’t want and expect them to care to replace your order you’re clearly happy with.
Good example:
The Saurfang thing. Tons of players removed their shoulderpads to support Saurfang in the story that was railroading the player narratively.
Blizz said this was one of the most powerful player messages they had seen.
In this case, to me it looks silly to buy in, either by race change or time spent unlocking and leveling, a race that you admit to not wanting, with lore you find weak and uninteresting, and then using said race to protest in a forum thread.
Instead of sending a message that you want High Elves, this just sends a message that you’re ok with Void Elves as a replacement by any measurable metric, or at the very least, adds to their success as a good decision.
It only looks stupid to you. Subjectivity and all.
I can like Void Elves even if its not what I wanted and still ask for High Elves which I do want. Liking and playing a Void Elf does not invalidate my request for playable Alliance High Elves in any way. Sorry honey, that’s just the way it is.
The only “message” I’m sending by playing Void Elves is that I like Void Elves.
He lines his arguments based on his view that the Blood Elves are the true successors of the High Elven race, that’s why he’s against playable High Elves because they would make the Blood Elves feel less unique for some reason (while also defending the Void Elves which logically would have the same effect). In the end is something like “You cannot have playable High Elves because it would make my race feel less special”, it’s pretty based on emotions, i don’t condemn it, it’s okay to be passionate, but then you see responses like this:
“Only my feelings of uniqueness matter, your disapointment and indignation over the service you pay for are meaningless”
void elves werent a compromise for the small alliance high/blood elf crowd. high elves became blood elves and will never be playable on alliance. they were a compromise for the nightbourne sharing the night elf model. the devs have been saying this since BC. the few alliance high/blood elves that are left are meant to be flavor NPCs
Yet this thread has long gotten special treatment over others in letting it getting longer and longer past the cap that usually killed many others. This says that the message about High Elves is being listened to at some level within Blizzard’s organization. This means that they know Void Elves were not enough.
You’re listening to the same two dozen people, on both sides. A year ago this was much more of an “issue”. It’s definitely dying down, being placated, or simply not mattering to as many anymore.
tbf there are no more threads being created bashing void elves. only in this thread where there are less then 20 regular posters does this come up anymore
Most people return the pizza they don’t want, instead of paying for it, or you know, stop eating at a place that hasn’t made the pizza they want for 14 years.
Well, after all the grinding I went through to unlock Void Elves, I was expecting quite a bit more, but I was hopeful that Blizzard would deliver in Battle for Azeroth with the lore and features.
So far they have not.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m considerably happier with my Void Elf than I was with my Night Elf (I always felt like a giant) but I was never quite satisfied with the lore and the way the Void elves have been used in-game (SO FAR) has felt quite lacking.
Alamara created a thread quite a while ago (which I participated in) on the old forums on how to improve Void Elves, but it was closed after a while due to being a “High Elf thread” (???) much to our frustration.
To be honest, I don’t hate Void Elves- I’ve never hated them. I think they have potential, just that they’ve been handled pretty poorly so far. High Elves have just been my favorite race and I’ve always seen Bladinas as one, and I’ve wanted High Elves since I knew of Warcraft’s existence.
