The Undercutting

My guess is their auction addon is set to undercut by 1 silver and they just keep clicking post without paying much attention.

the real problem is you wasting time selling things worth less than 1g

you’d vendor the items then.

I want the gold which is why I AH rather than vendor.

But I dont want to waste time relisting so I undercut a bit for the guaranteed sale.

I tend not to undercut 99% of the time, but when I do it’s only for a single reason. Sometimes the market will overprice an item, maybe because someone bought all of them out at the “normal” price, maybe for other reasons. At that point you can try to deduce what price it will actually sell at.

Or you can put it up at the “too high” price and watch it get returned repeatedly, along with people coming in and “correcting” the price, making it even less likely to sell at the high price.

I had someone try to argue with me that you never need to adjust the price ever, but when the only price in the AH is absolutely too high and no one will be willing to pay it, that’s when you “undercut.”

For me this is most often the case with pets. Maybe there are only two in there but they are at prices that practically no one is willing to pay. That’s actually a fairly typical AH grift, list it at six figures and hope someone messes up or just has way too much gold. At that point you can either follow along and get the item returned repeatedly, or you can say forget what other people have posted it at, what is actually a price someone might be willing to pay.

I mean I still get stuff returned sometimes even though it’s really cheap. Making it cheaper won’t necessarily help it sell, but like I said in some cases adjusting price will likely be necessary.

correct.
if people didn’t kill the market with the pointless undercutting, prices wouldn’t be so low!

high five for seeing the problem!!!

Grossly undercutting is often done by people who ‘play’ the AH a lot. Banking on people not paying close attention, and buying up the items that got listed at the lower amount and relisting.

Or to look at it from the other side, if people didn’t undercut, supply-and-demand curves would remain at unnatural, inflated price points.

If something ends up back in my mailbox then that is one time to many and i will undercut it so bad that someone will feel forced to buy my crap and relist it

I let TSM do the undercutting for me though I use 2s as the undercut instead of the 1s you usually see just to be different (used to use 15c instead of 1c, but since the AH quit showing coppers I went big to 2s undercut ). I don’t do huge undercuts unless I just want it gone no matter want but don’t want to vendor/delete.

I gave up caring on what I post stuff for over a decade ago. Undercutters will snipe your stuff or just undercut you forcing you into a undercut fight with no winners,

I sell transmog cheap sinc equite honestly if its not something sub 1% Drop chance its not worth any value to me and anyone I deem it being sold too.

Might not like hearing that butthe negatives outweigh the alternative.

Just cause. Be glad to know I rarely ever use the ah. BUT MAN, on Tarkov, seeing people undercut something that was selling at 50 and bring it all the way down to 30 suuuucks.

I haven’t sold on the Auction House in awhile, but I used to have an add on via Curse Forge, that would just scope the current sales of an item and list it for you just a bit lower then everyone else. I honestly never paid attention to the current listings, I just let the add on list my stuff.

Could be what other people are doing. I didn’t care if it sold for a few copper less, I just wanted it sold. Maybe they just want their stuff sold.

If it’s by 1s it may be someone’s TSM.

I have zero interest in undercutting by 1 silver just so i have to collect it from the mail a couple of days later, when i list auctions it’s because i want to empty my bags so i brutally undercut, not just by a little either, i do it by 30-50% to ensure that some AH player buys my crap so they can deal with the relisting lol

Sometimes I put overpriced things for 1g. Then, when people’s addons post 400 units of something for 99s, I buy all 400 of it. Because I can. I can also sell my 1000g item for 1g when doing this. Because I can. I post things above the undercut price if I think it will sell at the higher price (enchanting materials are big about this). I post things below prices if I think it won’t.

Because I can.

Because we can.

I dont care about gold. If I want to sell it fast, i’ll drop it for 3 copper if need be and not give a turd about some AH players “profits”
