The Undead Are Not "Strong Against The Void"

They are indeed more resilient to the whispers of the Old Gods, yet the blood of an Old God is one of their weaknesses.

Being stabbed with Saronite kills the Undead. That’s clearly stated both on Edge of Night and on Chronicle.

I would say it’s a zero sum situation.

It does, one of the major reasons why there was Saronite everywhere during ICC is just because of this.

Saronite is undead’s kryptonite, the Old Gods are a greater threat to the undead than the undead to the Old Gods.

The void elves even created zombie dinosaurs.

Are we certain that undead are resistant to the whispers of the Old Gods? I always got the impression that the reason the Scourge weren’t driven mad by Yogg-Saron was because the Lich King already dominated their minds, not just because they were dead.

it was never clearly stated whether the scourge could mine saronite safely because they are resistant or because the Lich King was dominating their minds.

Though to be fair, the Lich King lived in a castle made of Saronite. If he wasn’t resistant to it, the whispers would have gotten him and then the rest of the Scourge through him.

He does have the Helm of Domination though. I’d assume that would help keep out any outside voices.

Even if the LK had a strong grasp on undead, it can be broken. Look at Forsaken or DKs as example.

The undead are not immune to Old God corruption, heck, the body of the same undead were once mortals, fleshlings infected by the curse of Yoggles.

I find it hard to believe that a helmet made by Kil’jaeden with the spirit of an Orc would be powerful enough to block Old God waves lol

Not to mention, the main reason why Sargeras began the Burning Crusade was his fear for corruption. Kil’jaeden wasn’t as powerful as a titan, do you really think the dude would have made some tin foil hat to prevent craziness?

Death magic is different from Shadow magic…

It’s not exactly like that Old God was at full power at the time. Plus that crown is powerful enough to control the massive army that is the Scourge, and supposedly would be powerful enough to control the Scourge even if every living being on Azeroth was added to its ranks. I think it can hold off the whispers of one mostly-sleeping Old God.

Death Magic can be Shadow Magic. It can also be Holy Magic, Order Magic or Chaos Magic.

We’ve seen Ner’zhul do Necromancy with the Void Star, we’ve seen a book in Dalaran about Arcane Necromancy, We’ve seen Gul’dan raise Mannoroth as a Fel Skeleton and we’ve seen a Naaru resurrect Calia as a holy Undead.

That’s something most people don’t realize about WoW Cosmology: The bubbles are connected.

DKs and Forsaken say hi.

The LKs grip on their mind is strong but not all mighty.

I never said it was almighty. I just said it is powerful enough to hold off the whispers of one Old God when that Old God only possesses a fraction of its true power.

Except there were examples of Undead who were embedded with Saronite to make them stronger…or at least pointier.

Undead aren’t completely immune to bladed weapons unless you cut their heads off. They’re quite capable of being killed by being stabbed or sliced or crushed. Throwing yourself off the edge of Icecrown Citadel is going to kill anyone or anything, undead or otherwise, unless of course they can fly.

Welp now I have a mission. I must destroy all saronite ore and items to ensure no one can murder my Mortis!

WoW Chronicle Vol 3 Page 182.

“When the Lich King first arrived in Northrend, he discovered and studied saronite. He found that it was nearly indestructible and incredibly resistant to many forms of magic. The Lich King also learned that it had the power to destroy the bodies and souls of undead creatures. Intrigued, he ordered his servants to use saronite to create armor, war machines, and even his fortresses across Northrend.”

Now that’s Awkward

There was this book I remember reading that detailed the different elements and stuff. Death was different from Shadow.

Do you know what else can destroy the Undead? A powerful enough Fireball.

And in either case, that contradicts your original point. If Sylvanas’ soul was destroyed by the Saronite, the Val’kyr wouldn’t have been able to retrieve it.

They are different. But, I think the point he was making is that the 6 (7, if you count the elements) forces actually have a decent amount of crossover between them. They are not entirely segregated.
