I’m planning on using the Twilight Highlands as an RP space and I understand that most Cata zones are crazy with phasing. I’m planning on using Dragonmaw harbor, the obsidian forest, and other locations in the zone. If I have my group do the Highlands intro quest, will I have to deal with much in the way of phasing?

I believe the main phasing area is Dragonmaw Harbor, so you should be good to go after you unlock that. If I’m remembering correctly, a lot of the other areas host a few dailies and aren’t phased (around the dwarf areas for Horde).
And that can only be started from Orgrimmar, right? Can’t start from the Highlands?
Yes. The first part of it all happens in Orgrimmar (I’m assuming with Garrosh still? I haven’t done it in awhile). I don’t think you can go there first and then go back. It’s been a few expansions since I’ve done the intro, but that’s how I remember it.
The intro to Cata areas are weird now. Like Vash’jir. You talk to a guy and are now randomly in an overturned boat a mile under the ocean.
Apparently Blizzard has resigned to the fact that new players are done coming in.
They recently added Party Sync, which is supposed to sync your party’s quest progress (and therefore also your phases). I’d test it out before trying to use it, as I’m not sure how well it would work, but it may be the cure to our phasing woes.
