How the Alliance described the fight pre 8.1: “Wow Blizzard, seriously? Nathanos goes 1v2 against Malfurion and Night Warrior Tyrande! He is a nobody! Look at that plot armor! He even DIES and a val’kyr sacrifices herself to bring him back! Horde story bias!”
What actually happens: Nathanos and the Horde’s strongest champion (The player) along with a Val’kyr, manage to stall Malfurion and Tyrande for about a minute while the second val’kyr raises a group of a night elves for the Forsaken. Malfurion then KILLS the val’kyr and Nathanos retreats. Tyrande decides to not pursue and returns to rally her forces for the bigger fight.
So all of that complaining was completely unfounded. Horde pulled off a grab-and-snatch before being forced out, and the Nelves hit Sylvanas where it hurts the most: her Val’kyr.
How did they manage to slow down Malfurion, Tyrande and their soldiers?
How? He just says enough and we silently watch as he leaves unopposed.
Why not drop 3 moons like she did with 1 Val’kyr?
Why didn’t Malfurion trap them in his vines?
Tyrande minutes earlier killed an entire camp in a split second whats stopping her to doing it again?
I don’t know, how did Tyrande and Malfurion survive being hit in the face by huge boulders of lava and powerful lightning bolts?
Actually, why do seagulls need to be hit by 10 lightning bolts before dropping dead?
First Nathanos is actually quite powerful. He actually required a 40 man alliance raid in Vanilla WoW. Secondly and more importantly he was aided by a Greater Valkyr, and was still losing badly - barely managing to last a minute.
Yeah and after being geared in tier 2 of an expansion we could 10 man group vs 20man mythic bosses. Gameplay related gear scaling does not change the base power level. If you are looking for lore reasons don’t stoop to that.
Oh you mean the consequence of losing that exact same Greater Valkyr? The 2 dark rangers we raised were not worth losing that Valkyr. They should have been abandoned and attempted the same ritual again at a later date with a more powerful force to defend the Valkyr.
Why does Nathanos not kill Malfurion with a poisoned / blight arrow? Massive freaking bear vs a master archer at a distance.
The answer is because power does not translate literally into the game or else there would be no story because some characters are at nuclear warhead levels of power.
The problem is Alliance calls for that literal translation when it is their heroes making the move, and then get mad when it doesn’t happen.
Hell, even without players or sides involved, Illidan and Arthas fought to a stalemate with Illidan limping away at the end. If the main NPCs just murdered each other whenever they met, this would be Game of Thrones.
He didn’t, I distinctly remember myself and the rest of the scenario party smashing it down to 1% only to have him come in and kill steal it like the jerk king he is.
because up until then blight was an super weapon that nothing could stymie, which was absurd in of itself
because powerful mages can do that. Khadgar did it, too, several times.
Are you talking about lore or are you talking about game mechanic because many faction leaders and specific heroes needed groups to take them down.
But doesn’t mean they are anywhere the same powerlevel according to lore.
We used to need raids to kill Magni. Would Magni from Vanilla can take on Malfurion, Tyrande and their soldiers all by himself?
A lot of the complaints started with the 1st iteration of this scenario. It’s better but there are still things that don’t make logical sense. Unfortunately, logic is not Blizz’s strong point when it comes to story so it’s best to just ignore it/shrug shoulders/move on imo.
Cognitive dissonance much? The Alliance heroes are the ones with those nuclear warhead levels of power pulling punches against ‘a really good dark ranger’.
I am not saying Nathanos can take her on by himself. I am saying that he is quite powerful, and then was aided by a Greater Valkyr who is very powerful. Even then they were handily beaten, and the Valkyr was killed.
