The truth about gutting combat addons

Here’s the truth about what will happen when blizz guts combat addons…

The gap that separates the good from the bad will vastly increase and people will quit the game because they cant play at the level they’re currently playing at.

That’s the truth…this will absolutely hurt the game.

Thank you for telling the truth. It’s very heroic.

It all depends on how blizzard designs encounters going forward.

If we go back to, and I cringe saying this, Wotlk design encounter days then it’ll be fine.

If they continue with the absolutely insane encounter design we have today? Yeah there may be a problem if the inhouse DBM isn’t good enough.

The only way this works is if they dumb down the content to the point that it’s extremely easy to play optimally.

I agree,
To add on to that, the game design has been neglected for so long that people have made themselves home in that neglected state.

The game needs to change, paradoxically any changes will now cause people to leave.

This is a bed Blizzard made.

If we go back to wrath encounter design I think a lot of people will quit out of boredom.

I think there’s somewhere around BFA level that’s reasonable if they tone down the impact of communication add-ons.

I don’t disagree; id rather them focus on making sure the inhouse add-ons are on par with the 3rd party ones.

I agree…

It’s definitely going to make a lot of mid level players quit if they don’t make the content easier though.

Also…could this be a sign that wow is headed to console? Once the addons are all internal and the rotations are simple…what’s stopping them?

Blizzard hasn’t had the most successful track record with console ports. But I wouldn’t say it couldn’t happen.

Ion makes it sound obvious that they’d want to tone back the game and the addons so they arent relied on to play the game so much.
I very seriously doubt this man is gonna make the game EASY to play in end game content…lets not forget who we’re talking about here lol.

Incompatible RTE

He says that but their CD manager is really, really bad. The telegraphs on private auras are not very obvious. So I am not hopeful.

It’s not about easy or hard. That’s not the point.

Past performance is indicative of future performance. With that being said, they won’t do a good job at all with it.

If they make people feel like they suck (even if they do) those folks will just quit playing.

This is just upping the difficulty in a different way. Some people are going to lose 20% of their dps if they gut Hekili and that’s probably a conservative number.

They will

I think theyve said theyre gonna keep working on that. Im sure there will be some who just prefer addons anyway.
I used to use Bartender, but the UI changes allow me to remove that for my game needs…but I assume some are still using Bartender for things I didnt need it for.

I dont think theyre gonna ever make addons obsolete, but I personally hate relying on them. One of the ones I use hasnt been updated in a long while…constantly causing some kind of conflict…I have a macro set up to disable it quickly because its notorious for locking me out of something I need to do when Im in group content lol.
So I prefer, personally, having as much in game as possible to keep from relying on so many addons…

then what is the point? that we’re upset about a gimped feature that isnt competitive and isnt gonna be as good as what an addon does already anyway?

To be fair, they said numerous times in the interview that they aren’t banning the addons, just trying to make it so players aren’t defacto forced into using them

They said they were limiting the effectiveness of combat addons like Hekili.

That means they’re making them useless in corporate speak
