I speak only for myself, but the day WoW does in the Queen of the Forsaken they lose me too. You had the chance for a truly mythic heroine in Sylvanas: someone willing to do terrible things to oppose those far worse. The tiny e-sports crowd and the hard core “I want to be world first” raid groups were never your future Blizzard, 10 Million lost subscribers prove that. It was always about the story and how strongly we identified with characters we played out the story with.

I respect your loyalty to your favorite NPC.

I’d like to agree that the Story was more important to WoW’s success than the game itself was, because it’s often the case for me - but I don’t think it was for most players. At most, it was the icing on the cake (which is still pretty damn important, right?) for ‘average WoW player #2440003.’

But stick by your guns and if you hate where things head, do what feels suits you best. I’ve definitely had shows or stories I’ve lost interest in after a favorite character is handled poorly or hit with the idiot-bat one too many times.

And… you could always do like I am and go to Classic, at least in part because you prefer the Lore and the setting - particularly if you’re a Roleplayer. :slight_smile:

I get your point, but story wise, its a trope as old as any, She is becoming what she once hated most, and as stories go, its not terrible.

Sylvanas was never even morally grey. She flat-out betrayed and murdered the humans who helped her retake Lordaeron.

That is kinda true. But for me, it was Varian. I was devastated when they killed him. We’ve been through a lot with him. He imo was the best faction leader next to Sylvanas. Tyrande was up there until they messed up her and Malfurion.

Uh, bull. Do this to Thrall or Saurfang and watch what happens.

They’ve specifically said Sylv won’t be Garrosh 2.0. All we can do is hope that they remember that.

Sylvanas has been a self serving schemer since day one. Getting real tired of these “BLIZZ RUINED HER CHARACTER BY MAKING HER CONTINUE TO BE TRUE TO HERSELF!!!” posts.

Yeah this is where I completely disagree with OP. Sylvanas is not a “good person”. But she’s one the last “fun” characters. Her schemes and machinations breathe life and danger and suspense into what would otherwise be a paint-drying dynamic of Baine v Anduin or something.

If they want the game to be all goody two-shoes characters, just eliminate the factions already.

If Sylvanas looked like Lady Ashvane but literally nothing else changed about her, she’d have almost no supporters, you know this to be true.

I am absolutely here for the character attachment, story and maybe raiding.

And about Sylvanas, becoming "just Arthas-garrosh evil go kill, would absolutely ruin an otherwise amazing character. Not like some self imposed puritan lol (sorry don’t like those I’m all charity and goodness chars).

You can say that but I don’t see much evidence otherwise, not like she’s a fleshed out character… she uses a tragic backstory as an excuse to be a huge witch and only wants to preserve her own life above anything, even her own subjects.

Yeah I sure would want someone like that to stick around longer.

No one is denying that beauty lends to charisma, but this is silly. A lot of people love Lillian Voss and she’s not winning any pageants. Take any character, person, whatever, make them “uglier” and watch them lose fans. That doesn’t mean everyone that likes Sylv has one hand on the keyboard and the other on their -

The person who sees the horrible thing that is the fast and expedient solution but refuses to use them is more of a hero.

The person who goes for the fast and dirty solution without looking at the long term consequences isn’t even a hero. They’re just a person trying to fix things in the now.
