I only have two pet teams so far this expansion. I found that three Ikkys beats most single boss fights.
You need a Nigel.
Nigel is my parasitic boarfly from tiragarde sound. Capture til you get a P/P one.
Two Ikkys and a Nigel would be a level of ownage witnessed by few.
(I talk about Nigel too much on this forum but that’s because I feel like others are missing out and Nigel is free via wild capture.)
You don’t have to name yours Nigel but I highly recommend it.
Unborn Val’kyr is also lovely for boss battles. Slap a curse on it and use unholy ascension before having the life knocked out of the undead pet.
Following up with an Ikky is nice also.
Also grab three Nexus Whelplings. They are easy to catch and very powerful against flyers and bosses.
Unborn valkyr + ikky beats 90% of boss pets in the game
Unborn Valkyr/Ikky is certainly effective, but it also requires that you go and catch an Unborn Valkyr… which may not be a great time.
I prefer Boneshard/Ikky combo, it’s just as effective and not nearly as annoying to get.
That USED to be true. It certainly was when I got it, back in Mists.
The Valk is now one of the easiest and quickest wild pets to capture.
There is always one up in each of the zones where it appears. If you capture or kill one, another will instantly spawn. Personally, I recommend Grizzly Hills. Three spawn spots, always a Valk at one of them. It has only two breeds, and both work for all, or vanishingly all, battles.
If you engage an Unborn Valkyr, make sure you check its abilities and ensure it’s not using Unholy Ascension. If you see that ability, forfeit the match then reengage, as reengaging causes the pet to randomly swap abilities. The reason being is that Unholy Ascension will cause the Unborn Valkyr to die, and you won’t be able to capture it.
It may take several tries (and several bandages) to get the Unholy Ascension ability off the Unborn Val’kyr and replaced with Curse of Doom, but it beats watching the pet you want commit suicide.
Also Boneshard and Ikky will own any mechanical boss pet. Use Blistering Cold and Chop until Boneshard is dead. Then bring in Ikky and use Black Claw, Flock.
I do know of one exception. As one who has both breeds, there is one strat involving Tarr the Terrible, a Draenor Pet Tamer, in which B/B will simply not work. B/B doesn’t have the health pool to survive to do all the necessary attacks. And this strat depends upon Unborn Valkyr to use two attacks during the Immortal Round.
I’ve tried it several times with B/B have never succeeded. H/H reliably works.
