Unable to complete quest “The Thane of Voldrune”. I spent 10 minutes running around in between the dragons legs and clicking to try and ride him to go kill the target before it finally let me mount him(kept saying “you need to be closer to interact”). When I finally was able to mount him, I went over to kill the guy, and my attacks did 0 damage for about 1 minute until the game crashed. After logging back in I can’t even mount the dragon anymore(tried for 25 minutes). It just keeps saying “You need to be closer to interact”, no matter how close I am.
Just for clarity’s sake - is this on Classic or Retail? I know you’re posting on a Retail character but one really ever knows these days. And since I’m playing twenty questions here - is it on this character that you’re trying to do this quest? Or another that has flying? (this does matter, because of a work-around I’ve seen.)
This is wrath classic. I have no idea why my character shows ups as 27 Warlock retail. I haven’t played that character in months, and I only played it for a couple days. My shadowlands main is a Warrior.
Gottcha, that is why I ask rather than assuming based on the posting character! I was curious about the flying because it seems that you can skip mounting up on the dragon all together it seems, per some of the WoWHead comments. The NPC is stationary, so ranged can supposedly just nuke him from a distance. Not sure how hard he hits on melee though since you’re on a Warrior, but of course just as I typed that I see where a 74 rogue had completed the quest without mounting the dragon.
If you’ve got the health, gear and maybe a pot on hand, it could be doable rather than the buggy mounting?

I think it has something to do with the fact that I’m a Gnome. Finally got him (took 20 clicks or so) to talk to me while mounted.
Now I’m running into a separate bug. I can’t deal damage to him at all with the Dragon. My fireball spell(1) hits him directly but does no damage. My Molten Fury DoT(3) also doesn’t do any damage. The only spell that actually hits him is the 5 seconds stun(2), but since the other spells are broken it doesn’t matter.
Ranging him without the dragon is not an option as he’s an elite mob with ranged attacks. I tried this method and he just ranged me down before I could get him below 90%(74 frost mage).
There are over a hundred comments in regards to the quest on WoWhead. There a number of different strategies that people have figured out to get the quest completed, if you go through them.
In a perfect world, the quest would work perfectly or at least would be skippable. But past pointing you in the direction of that thread, I don’t know what else can be done on this forum. CS can’t really do anything with bug reports, they belong in the proper forum where the Devs can see it’s an issue. We have no staff here past our SFAs, and they have nothing to do with either accepting bug data or fixing it. Really, any bug you come across should go there, just to ensure it’s reported and the Devs can see there is a problem.
