The Talking Head

Must go. I’m tired of it. The box can’t be resized. It can’t be hidden. It can’t be removed. When the talking head is on screen nothing is seen nor clickable behind it. A player is forced to right click the box to make the talking head shut up and go away. It serves only as a visual obstruction to the playing field. Prove me wrong.

I think there’s an addon to remove it. There really should be a built in option that just changes it to a whisper from the NPC.

There are a couple of addons that will do this for you, although it’s pretty wild that Blizz hasn’t just implemented a toggle after 10 years.

I like talking heads. But only the first time. I get easily tired hearing the same thing every time I fly into a zone with WQs I already did 100 times before.

If they added an option to disable talking heads when you complete the WQ at least once, that would be perfect.

Conversations from an NPC were a whisper in the chat box many many years ago. I guess they wanted to help knew players become better oriented to the navigation of the game and prevent conversation in chat from burying the quest dialog. Considering we can make several separate stacking chat windows, 1 window for each channel, guild, whispers, etc, the lack of an option to hide it is ridiculous. Even a resize slider would do wonders to ease the harassment of this troublesome obstruction. I use a 32 inch letterbox screen so I can only imagine the horror some players endure with a 19 inch.

Personally, I set mine at the top of the screen, although, it’d be great to be able to shrink it.
Still, to be fair, you can just click the X in the top right corner to dismiss it.

You can also right click the box to make it go away, but that is beside the point. Interacting with that box is one extra action distracting me from the more important content of the game. I’m starting to think they made it as more bloat for the game to slow down our playing. Make us take longer to enjoy the game the way we want to enjoy it, which is the entire reason I started playing Warcraft so many years ago. It had the least amount of hinderance than any other game on the market. Still does to a certain extent. WoW is slowly following other games with ability and screen bloat. Talking Head really needs an option to be hidden or reduced in size.

there is a weakaura that lets you hide it

dragonflight ui resizer. also lets you resize quest log, minimap, cast bar, etc

The addon “HideTalkingHead” hides the talking head. Had it since they introduced the talking head in legion.

Yep, I set mine to the top left corner where I have no other data presented. I wish hitting ESC would silence them, versus having to left mouse click the X on the window.

Just pin it to the top right of the screen, you usually don’t need to see your buffs or mini map when whoever is yapping anyway. It’s outta the way when flying as well. Best spot I’ve found for the stupid thing.

Its game breaking , for sure.

I don’t know, I personally love Talking Heads. Road to Nowhere is an amazing song.

Well they were a Once in a Lifetime band, but their time has passed. You May Find Yourself beside yourself in that genre.

I dont like unnecessary (imo) addons. We shouldn’t be fighting to enjoy a video game. Right? That’s basically what we’re doing. At the base level, we’re fighting the changes they made to enjoy our relaxation method so they can attempt to increase/retain subs. It’s a trade off, but one that alienates the present player base who do not like the Talking Head feature.

The entire point behind addons is to customize the game to your liking, that’s why it was such a big deal back in vanilla for wow to have addon support like it did. While it would be nice to have options for everything in the options, you can’t even tell the game to loot to leftmost bag or reverse cleanup order without manually setting cvars yourself (despite both options appearing in the main options menu previously) so an addon like HideTalkingHead is sadly a necessity, because options for everything will never arrive.

No, but it can be moved.

I put mine at the top of the screen so it doesn’t interfere with my action bars, or anything else in front of my character

I use an addon called Be Quiet.

When that talking head covers your screen so you can’t see what you’re fighting it’s really annoying.

They dont want you to turn it off with ingame settings. This is a great way to reach people when they finally break the seal and implement ingame advertising at some point. “Champions! This raid is brought to you by Prudential. If you dont have a soulstone be sure to drop by our website and find a life insurance plan thats right for you!”.
