The story of Shadowlands was not a complete failure

I know it wasn’t the most popular expansion as far as gameplay was concerned, but in truth, there’s a lot of rich lore to follow up on…

Think about it, Vol’jin is reincarnating right now and has the essence of Rezan inside of him, so someone on Azeroth needs to have a baby,

We also need to find out what Anduin and Sylvanas are up to,

There’s many more great stories that can be told.

Sylvannas redemption arc made the entire expansion a failure.

Hopefully disappearing forever.

Anduin’s busy staying far from any discussions involving him and Sylvanas because people on the internet make it too weird for the 9 billionth time, while Sylvanas got torn to shreds by a pack of wild ghost geese, and nothing of value was lost. The end.

That’s kind of a weak endorsement.

It was an absolute failure.

It had some neat ideas, and a nice aesthetic working for it outside of the Maw nonsense. Shouldn’t have done the grand plan fare and should have kept their hands out of retcons, no one ever likes that.

Is it better than DFs narrative? I got to the centaur area before I started skipping every single quest in DF, so I couldn’t truly say. From what I’ve seen though it’s less destructive but far worse to read.

Gameplay wise, SL would have been a good expansion without borrowed power and if they utilized single continent with good travel. Such a shame how much damage has been done to this game over the years by these parasite systems.

Yes it was.

Anyone who says otherwise isn’t even worth trying to convince, either too far gone or incapable of grasping simple concepts.

Yuh no it was a complete and utter failure only way it could of been redeemed is if they used the creation engine thingy to pretty much retcon the last two expansions and unvillian bat Sylvanas but nope couldn’t do that had to ruin Sylvanas as a Character completely making her motivation for joining the jailer Lava Eel vore and turning her into “The Ranger General” Sylvanas’ Alliance bootlicking alter ego

The lore and writing were one of the worst parts of it.

I can’t express enough how hard I laughed when I learned about this, and then verified it was true.

I liked the story of Shadowlands to be honest, but it isn’t WoW. If it was a separate game, it’d be cool but it just doesn’t fit with the lore we already have. I did like Zereth Mortis and Sire Denathrius in the expansion but only as characters apart from the mainline story.

When they return, i think its best we just forget the whole shadowlands stuff ever happened and act like they never left.

Slot them back in position and move on

You named a future pregnancy and two characters gone that most people are sick of. If those are your stand out examples of potentially rich lore, I’ll keep my opinion that SL sucked.

And people didn’t just complain about the gameplay. The entire story was a slow motion train wreck.

My personal opinion - Shadowlands had an alright story on launch. The first patch story arc that culminated with the raid on Castle Nathria were the high point of the expansion from a story perspective. Zereth Mortis was a good zone gameplay wise but story and lore wise the expansion got worse as it went on.

Agree with this 100%. I loved Zerith Mortis and Denathrius. I did not like anything else.

Aesthetically, story- and gameplay-wise Shadowlands was not pleasant to enjoy.

I don’t disagree, Venari’s Stuff was amazing, and I enjoyed her quests as I ventured through the Maw.
That’s about all I can say though.
