I seriously doubt that a combination of racists and misogynists saw to the downfall of Star Wars (and possibly even Disney soon).
Even if it was the case, why would you change Star Wars to go against that demographic?
Aren’t they interested in making money anymore?
Somebody has their priorities out of whack and my theory is that at that time they still had overwhelming support for those kind of trends but when the US administration changed, that support was dropped like a hot potato.
Now the entertainment industry is just a smoking heap of garbage in the aftermath.
