I’m sitting here trying to figure out how to put my feelings into words. I’ve played on and off since vanilla and whenever I’ve taken a break it was because of something on my end. Either I didn’t have the time or the money to continue playing, but I’ve been fairly consistently playing since the end of Cataclysm. I’ve felt that the devs have always tried to do something cool or inspired. They have always been willing to take risks with game design. At least that was true until BFA launched and then confirmed with the current state of Shadowlands. And I suppose the shift actually started, back in Legion. Because that is when this game shifted from a growing MMORPG to an MMO seasonal system game.
I’ve lost all faith in the current leadership at Blizzard. I honestly couldn’t tell you who is actually in charge of the big decisions for WoW, but what I can tell you is that I highly doubt they play much of the game they are making big decisions for. On that note, I’m also tired of the consistent lie “We hear you, and we’re listening”. Even with this post, the chances are it will not be seen by a single dev, much less acted on.
This has turned into a directionless rant. I want WoW to be good. I want the devs to show some passion for the game. I want all these unnecessary systems on systems on systems that the devs will never be able to balance out of this game (like honestly, did you not learn your lesson with Legion or when you tripled down with BFA?). There are so many of us that have been here since the beginning or at various points in this game’s past that want this game to succeed. It’s disheartening to watch this game being slowly dismantled from within.
White knight brigade will be here soon to tell you that complaining is not good.
But ya the Dev team is rather removed from the players, they’re only really talking to players who play the game they want you to play it, and COVID made every issue compound ontop of one another.
Covid impacted people, no doubt there. but other games have moved past it and released good content. Covid, unfortunately, can’t be blamed for poor design choices and compounding systems that don’t add value to the player experience.
This game has had problems since end of WotLK. Downhill decline of population since every subsequent expansion. Also our lawyer Dev had played a big part in that decline. Systemslands has had a hand in the pot since the beginning. COVID isnt an excuse because problems happened well before they had to work from home.
Devs are out of touch with players. their competition is beating them up @ every turn. On top of that more people are currently playing FF14 then WoW. WoW streamers are also turning to FF14. Then you have the new Amazon MMO coming out soon. Bellulars video today explained it in detail.
Actually, the game saw its biggest declines well before legion existed, pretty positive. Believe it or not, the casual experience you grew up with the game being, didn’t cause the playerbase to grow beyond the initial normal cycle for a game.
Same. But I feel that way because they’re trying to cater to you, me, the raid or die crowd, and who knows who else, and they’ve alienated all of us as a result.
I would propose that they took a big risk creating an expansion like Shadowlands, which was full of things they knew in advance that players were going to hate. That’s about the riskiest business decision possible, doing something you know will antagonize a lot of your customers.
“Cataclysm sucked!” mists comes out
“Wow mists sucks cataclysm was so much better” WOD comes out
“Wow WOD sucks mists was better” legion comes out
“wow legion sucks WOD was better” BFA comes out
“Wow BFA sucks legion was better”
so on and so fourth you cant please this whole community blizzard never will those of us who typically are enjoying shadowlands arnt here on the forums complaining about it cause we like the game but at the same time people who typically come here to complain also complain as if there statement is a fact rather than an opinion (not saying that OP is doing that) and the forums typically are a place where you cant go to defend shadowlands or say that you enjoy it with out a lot of people going “lol wow what a shill”
this is just the way it is shadowlands is pretty decent iv been playing for 10+ years (can KINDA prove that) and to me other than how classes play its the same ol same ol grind day in and day out
Every single current patch and every single current expansion has been hated by the forum ever since the dawn of the game. Now we see a bunch of “content creators” farming views from the outrage crowd, feeding them the videos they want to hear that fit their narrative. These clowns make a living from farming views, it’s amazing.
Covid was a small factor. The big issue is management. Blizzard has had the well-earned industry reputation of being glacially slow to come up with needed changes.
After several rounds of layoffs and with Shadowlands looming, the big guys whose names we knew started leaving. More layoffs and undoubtedly a fair number of mid and lower level employees had moved on, because that’s what people who work for a company that has frequent layoffs do. They look for a more secure job. The best people leave and those who are left are less productive.
The company has come to a standstill. A feature in the next patch is “Do twice as many mythic+ dungeons for the same reward”. Hello?
I understood what you meant. But since fun is no longer part of their vision, the risk they took was that people wouldn’t leave after they were fed up enough. That everyone is so addicted no one ever leaves and no one has ever left short of irl death.
Even with the current state of the game, I feel like SL is better than BFA. It’s the lack of reaction to feedback or the glacial pace of patching things that need to be fixed that is contributing the a poor experience.
People always like to throw around things like they are against fun. It’s so subjective though, and just because you personally find it fun, that doesn’t mean others don’t find it not fun.
I’m literally having fun, less fun because we are in a content drought, but will have more fun when they resolve that. I don’t think Blizzard is at all against fun.
Sounds about right since they’ve lost subs ever since, i mean those that says Cata sucks quit in Cata and so on. They don’t just say it for the sake of saying it otherwise WOW would still have 10m subs right now.
