The state of music in World of Warcraft

Does anyone else feel like the music in World of Warcraft isn’t nearly as good as it used to be? The music was so immersive and simple, yet so great (think Elwynn Forest, Barrens, BC Nagrand, Grizzly Hills, Sholazar Basin, etc).

Now most zone music seems to just be some crazy, over the top, epic, unneeded fanfare or basically non-existent music compared to what we used to get, both of which offer zero immersion in a lot of cases.

There is just no feeling in the music anymore. It is like comparing a large, soulless, bland chain store to a warm, wholesome, inviting mom and pop shop.

Please have this simple, soulful, love for the game kind of music make a comeback in the near future.

I strongly disagree. The music is awesome.

I love the music in TWW.

You literally can’t have been in azj’kahat or however tf it’s spelled and say this unironically. It’s incredibly immersive. What a take.

Music is next level this expansion, just the other day I stayed parked on a giant mushroom with my hunter just to listen to it.

Not even close. Between the OST and this YouTube channel, I’ve been listening to TWW music pretty much nonstop when I run out of podcast episodes.

It’s wonderful. The Blizzard music team knocks it out of the park with total consistency.

The day they got rid of Russell Brower is the day WoW music stopped being good. I don’t think they even use a real orchestra anymore. I think it’s all digital.

So much of it became reused and rehashed in Legion that I turned it down in settings.

Northwest Sinfonia orchestra used to do one or two tracks up until Shadowlands. The vast bulk of the music we hear in-game is scored and recorded in-house.

Yea blizzard outsourced their music production a long time ago.

When you outsource your music production it’s obviously a lot harder to make things diegetic and cohesive.

I think this comment just proves Blizzards cynical theory that most gamers don’t have a well trained ear to tell good music vs bad. It all just sounds the same to them.

Well played blizzard. Well played.

I thought I was enjoying it… didn’t realize I simply have untrained ears and am actually ignorant to how bad it truly is…

I explicitly came here thinking “you gotta be kidding me now people are gonna dump on the music?”

I wasn’t disappointed.

You are WRONG. The music this expansion is very good.

Music in WoW is consistently good.

Sorry if you aren’t vibing with TWW…

Whenever I fly over Gundargaz, I can’t help but nod along to the clanking sounds.

I have to disagree, I love TWW music. First time in a bit I would stop questing/exploring just to listen. Even have the proscenium music on my soundtrack background music list, LOVE the use of flutter tonguing!

Bro, do you even insist on all of your music being on vinyl because it like, sounds so warm, bro?

Yea apparently the two sacred cows in WoW you can never criticize is the music department and the art department.

Just a maw of ears. Think yogg but all ears.

“I can hear tunes you cannot fathom”
“You will miss the brass instruments in your ignorance”

You were actually criticizing people who enjoy the music…
